The Spitzevolke Invasion

513

The Spitzevolke tribes crossed the frozen passage of NördFlur during the immensely cold winter from 512 to 513, landing at Nordhafen. From there they invaded dwarven held territory to the Turnwise at Rodfort - The Red Keep and Widdershins, eventually leading to the formation of the independent state of Jergen. They went as far south as The Fjellvann and The Bergwasser, forming the small settlement of Vorposten just Hubwards of the area where the rivers met at Konigsstadt

The Spitzevolke had once been the human inhabitants of the lowlands of Mons Sanctus. The year of 512 was particularly harsh, a plague killed off much of the Spitzevolke livestock, and a drought lead to poor crops. Autumn was atypically cold and the ecosystem of the lowlands was failing. Less livestock and wild creatures meant a lack of food for the dragons of the region, who began to target the Spitzevolke inhabitants as a more plentiful source of food. With such a large population, The Spitzevolke were becoming desperate.   It was said then that Ender, the Spitzevolke God of Winter smiled upon them, recognising their hardship and sacrifice, for the winter of 512 was so exceptionally cold that the NördFlur, the sea between Mons Sanctus and Sinistria, froze over. Not long from starvation, and with no other option, the Spitzevolke made the crossing, and the new year of 513 saw them arriving in their thousands on the Hubwards edge of Sinistria in a region now called Nordhafen.   At this point, the region had been populated by dwarves, who had inhabited the area Turnwise of the Skulder range for millennia. They were cautious about the Spitzevolke, and wary of their ever-growing numbers, given that humans reproduce so much faster than dwarves. Initially their reception was not unfriendly, and the local dwarven kingdoms offered them food and medicine that they had kept aside over the long winter, but soon the region of Nordhafen began to become overcrowded, and as the spring rolled in, the Spitzevolke suddenly found themselves in a land of plenty the likes of which they had never seen. They became greedy, and angry that while they had been struggling for so long with little hope of redemption, just across the water had been a veritable paradise.   The settlement turned into an invasion. The Spitzevolke first turned their attention Turnwise (West) and Rimwards (South) to the towering Dwarven keep of Rodfort. The local dwarf population were quickly outnumbered, and Rodfort was utterly unprepared for the attack. It's primary defences had always faced the Turnwise side of the Jerntopp range, a barrier against the threat of the giants of Kolosskopf, not from the previously dwarven held region Widdershins (East).   The Spitzevolke then turned their attention Widdershins, passing through the Skulder Range at the mountain pass known as The Northern Corridor, plundering the region now known as Jergen, and forcing the The Nordfødt dwarves of the area to retreat to their island citadel of Nordborg. This group quickly separated themselves from their Spitzevolke kin to the Turnwise, and became an independent state, named after their Chieftian Walter Jergen.   By the end of the conflict The Spitzevolke controlled all of the hubwards area of the region from The Jerntopp Range to The Skulder Range stretching down to the hubwards banks of The Bergwasser and The Fjellvann . This put immense pressure on the dwarven held settlement and city foundations that would later become Konigsstadt, mostly held by the Redaxe Clan. Halted in their tracks just hubwards of the city where The Fjellvann and The Bergwasser met, the Spitzevolke formed the small fortified settlement of Vorposten.
