The Trinity Cult

Structure

The Archbishop is the head of the Cult and is supported by a number of Bishops, who act as his eyes and ears in the realm. Below them are large numbers of Priests and administrative staff who actually carry out the daily work of maintaining the faith.

Mythology & Lore

The religion of the Great Realm speaks of Three Gods, each covering a wide sphere of influence in different walks of life. The example of these Gods, and the favour they have shown the realm in the past spurs the inhabitants on to great deeds or simple victories.

Divine Origins

Mithani was the first of the Gods to land in the Great Realm. It is said that he came from far away, and brought with him the first animals. In the Golden Age, he ruled with a just and firm hand. He often walked amongst his children and always chose the ruler of the land. In this time, there was always a ruler who could be struck down if he governed badly.   Some time after Mithani landed, Floree appeared. Some stories place her as the offspring of Mithani’s seed and some dirt. Others say that she was the child of a sheep who proved to be able to tame the wilds, such that she ascended as a Goddess. Or finally, Mithani had sex with a dove, then forced a sheep to carry the child when it proved too big for a dove. This is perhaps the most popular of the stories.   Ram’s story is always the same. He came from across the sea, invading lands to conquer them utterly. Mithani (and originally with Floree) fought him to a halt in the Great Realm. Humbled by their power, he asked to join their company. He has protected the land ever since and is the principal protector of animals.

Tenets of Faith

Those who wish to please Mithani practice just and true leadership, without fear or favour for their position.    Floree encourages growth and hard work, as well as a peaceful co-existence with the land.    Ram is a figure of war, who soldiers pray to for strength. His war is not always bloody though and encompasses those just wars fought for peace and freedom.

Priesthood

The Mithani Cult is a subsect of the Chapel's worship, devoted to the guiding tenants of Mithani. They seek to interpret his actions but also provide practical advice to leaders who seek their help.    Floree and Ram have their own cults as well, but these are not well recognised by the Chapel. Only the Mithani Cult enjoys recognition and funding (by the nobility) above the other subsects of the religion.

Granted Divine Powers

Previous animals have been granted great power by the Gods. The demigod Adeboye possessed great speed and strength. The lover Liang was granted great endurance to allow him to climb to the halls of the Gods to retrieve his lover. Sun Tsuma, the first Shogun of Akanowa, was granted the ability, so it is said, to instil great peace and understanding in others. It was with this ability that she united Akanowa.

Political Influence & Intrigue

During the reign of Edward V 'the Holy' the Archbishop of the Chapel was replaced by a young radical preacher, who considered that the Gods were above the king, and as their representative, he deserved prime position in the realm. A considerable struggle ensured in which the High King had to manage the expectations of the realm against the followers of the Archbishop. After a lengthy political struggle, Edward V, with the support of the majority of the realm’s nobility, enacted the Statue of Separation 614 AF which firmly set out the roles of the Archbishop and King, stripping the Archbishop of the majority of any legal powers he had to grant pardons and dictate religious policy.   The Archbishop's power was transformed into a soft power to influence events. His rule does not extend out of the island the Chapel exists on. However, the Archbishop it still responsible for crowning the High King and so in this way he can exert a great deal of influence over the Princes of Callic and those due to ascend to the throne.
