Make 1st level Characters
Pay attention to your character's Background,
Ideal, Bond, and Flaw - either using the prompts
on PHB pg. 124, or on your own.
This campaign is set in the world of the Greenwold and so
The Greenwold Gazetteer will provide you with places and
locations to help ground your character in
the world.
Share Characters and Discuss Party Bond
Share your character with the group, and discuss the traits of the other player characters. Once everyone has discussed their characters, decide on one bond you have with each member of your party. Ask yourself what meaningful connection you could share with the other characters. How did you meet them, and why are you adventuring with them?
Do you share a history with another character that begins before the first session? If so, what's your connection to them? Are you partners in crime? Blood relatives?
Old friends?
If you don't have a pre-existing connection to another character, ask yourself what drew you to this group. Do you have expertise they need? Did you receive a dream or prophecy about a certain character? Did someone important to you owe a debt to one of them?
The
Five Motivations and the
The Five Factions articles can help you answer these questions.
Decide On Your Party's Wish
The
Quest for the Fallen Star begins with one well-known fact - a star has fallen from the sky,
and whoever finds it first will be granted a wish.
What motivates your party to go after
The Fallen Star? What will they do with
the wish if they get it? The more grounded
the party is in the specifics of their wish,
the more meaningful the adventure will
be to them.
Ask yourself how the wish unifies the
party's purpose. Do they all equally seek the
same thing, like Knights of the Round Table
seeking the Holy Grail? Or do they support a
single character in their quest to change the
world, like the Fellowship supporting Frodo
on his journey?
Use the prompts provided in the
Five Motivations section for a starting point, if
necessary.
Even if your party isn't driven by the
prospect of gaining a wish, they still have a
good reason to go after
The Fallen Star . The
lawful evil nation of
Blackrift , a kingdom of ruthless warriors hungry for conquest, seeks
The Fallen Star as well.
If they find it before anyone else, they'll use its power to bring the entire realm under their iron grip.
