CC: Session 7: The Fungus Among Us Report
General Summary
With a thousand-pound dinosaur begging for food, Gary the Grik banging his head against a keyboard, and Carbide on their way to save Gene chaos quickly erupted. Vox and Mellow got the dinosaur safety outside, but not before she tore a few more holes in the hull. Carbide and Axe collaborated on saving Gene. Battling giant spiders and magic webs, the managed to only burn down most of the room.
Using a gun as encouragement, Vox interrogated Gene. Through which they discovered that Ralii has been playing with the Human genome. Gene helped to produce Druid Juice and believes that Rali is trying to turn people into cattle. She expressed now being out of work, and Vox expressed having an opening for a genetic engineer. Carbide was gifted Gene most cherished artifact. A dragon carved necklace. Gene asked that Carbide hold onto it and remember that traditions and superstitions are sometimes valuable. The lucky old thing did send her a few saviors after all. Carbide decided to keep the relic, to hold onto it.
Sending Gene to help Gary the Grik write out his letter regarding Rali's work on developing powerful resurrection magic, the party pressed on. Searching for clues, Axe stumbled upon a receipt. Grim had sold the body of Chris Cromwell to Rali in exchange for genetically enhanced fertilizer.
With coolant leaking from the engine and constant beeping, the party was confronted by a rage-filled ooze that caught to end the life of Vox. Barely surviving, the creature was destroyed and Boots quickly looted the nearby corpse while Vox and Mellow repaired the engine. Boots discovered a list of individuals referred to as scions. Rali appears to be tracking them. On the list were the names Crumbs, Boots, and Wish. Boots also scored 200 credits and a potion of superior healing.
Taking a quick rest to recover, Boots kept watch. Watching the plants grow outside of the shop, Boots witnessed a spore burst, which resulted in zombie's rising up. The party quickly evaded the undead and had Mellow seal up the ship.
Collecting themselves, the party stepped into the observation deck. They were treated by a fungal creature, Yul, cultivating a spore-controlled dinosaur. As spores filled the room, Boots began to panic and scratch at fungus. Deciding to charge, Boots and Carbide leapt in to face the creature. They dropped the fungus as it released a spore of paralyzing bursts. Taking a massive hit, Boots collapsed to the ground. With Vox, Boots, and Carbide out of the fight, Axe and Mellow went on the defensive. As the dinosaur tore through the ship, they held it off until their friends could rejoin.
The party watched as a spore of clouds overtook Boots, and he ran out of the ship. They tried to slow him, but the zombies outside slowed them down. Worried over the fate of their friend, no cheers were song over their victory in the Stargazer.
Boots ran. Confused and in pain, paranoid and cold, Boots ran into the city streets. Desperate, he found an ally - and like the junkie he swore he would never be, he leaned against it. Then everything went dark, but unlike before footsteps paced through the fog. With a voice like the hum of the city, Ghost spoke, "You are not allowed to die just yet, I've already lost too many other scions. I need you to help me save the others..." Then with a snap of his fingers, Ghost commanded black mist, funneling it into Boots, "You are not to be consumed by the night, nor by the shadow of the void. You are to become its predator, it is you who must consume the night."
With the obnoxious screech of a mic too close to the speaker, Darus began rinning into the ship. "Good work Vox! The ship's core functions seem to be booting up. You must have repaired the engine! Listen, I know it should be me out there. Rali was my student...my failure, not yours. Age comes for us all though, and like so many of my mistakes, someone else must clean up the mess. I don't know what Rali plans to do with the artifact from Allora, but the implications are more deadly than I can even imagine, and apparently, I put a man's head in a grick. In what I've analyzed of the artifact, Pathos, it could usher in terrible things. He must be stopped before it is too late. I'm just sorry it has to be you to do it. I've paid for a new invention of mine to be uploaded into the ship. It should be fully restored by this afternoon. I suppose it's yours now, and I suppose it's time for me to start handing off the reigns."
