Named after the Soviet Venera series of space probes sent to study the then inhospitable planet in the 1960's, 70's and 80's, Venera is already a budding empire and growing fast. Having recently celebrated it's tricentenary the push for the Venus government to declare independence from the general public is growing - much to the disdain of The Directorate.
The people of Venera are an idealistic bunch who dream of independence from Directorate rule. Peaceful protests have increased in frequency over the last decade and the people demand to be heard - and they will, whether the local government and Directorate want to or not..
Venera's are highly educated and as such many of the menial tasks are performed by both pre-programmed and semi-sentient AI. The citizens enjoy a high standard of living with the vast majority being able to subsist off of a universal basic income - allowing them to focus on more creative pursuits.
Although the Government Ministry is democratically elected by the people, many have lost faith in the elections over the last century due to Directorate meddling. Although there are a handful of representatives pushing for independence the vast majority remain in The Directorates pocket, thus stalling any meaningful change in regards to independence.
Due to the relative peace of Sol, Venus' defence network is minimal when compared to that of Earth, Luna and Mars. That's not to say that it isn't more than sufficient should Venera come under threat though. What is lacks in quantity, it makes up for in firepower. In addition to its naval base and fleet of piloted VTOL fighters and drones - Venera and the surrounding countryside is dotted with dozens of orbital defence cannons capable of striking targets up to 0.4 AU away. Currently Venus is the only planet equipped with such a defence system and the people are fighting to keep it that way as a bargaining chip for independence.
Venera is the leading exporter in the solar system of hand-crafted, non mass-produced goods, art and jewellery. Another huge focus point is their vast cuisine - famous for incorporating elements from all four colonies to create a truly unique culinary experience for visitors and citizens alike.
The central district of Venera is truly a sight to behold. Comprised entirely of a single megastructure - 'The Hub' consists of a Directorate operated space-port, the seat of Government, A million homes and over a dozen shopping complexes, a state of the art medical facility and the central transit hub connecting the colony to its sister cities on Venus' surface.
On the coast sits a moderately sized naval base, primarily used as a dock for research expeditions exploring the depth's of Venus' ocean - it is also home to a small military fleet.
Situated on a coastal plain, the surrounding terrain provides plenty of room for further expansion. Sufficient access to Venus' ocean combined with advanced water purification technology means that the citizens have practically unlimited access to fresh water. Visitors to Venera often have to be arrested for overstaying their visas simply because they can not bear to leave the colony.
