Mechanics & Inner Workings
Appearing a normal signet ring upon base inspection (often with the wielder's family emblem or guild seal on it's surface) the ring actually has a delicate system of pressure points and dials buried under its surface. When activated by applying pressure to the precise spots required, the ring will briefly slide, open, or spin to reveal the ring's secret compartment within - one that displays the broken crown symbol the Sons of Freedom have taken as their emblem.
Manufacturing process
As the construction of the rings is an imperial crime, few jewelers in The Kaldari Highlands would dare risk the wrath of both The Eternal Empire and Dimitri Romonov, King of Kaldaria - regardless of the amount of silver offered. Instead, those looking to commission such a piece must rely on trusted craftsman sympathetic to the cause.
The exact materials used to create a secret insignia ring are irrelevant, and the normal status associated with rare and expensive materials is usually considered irrelevant compared to the secret held within. That being said, the ring is designed to blend in with the jewelry one would expect from someone of the bearers social class; you would not expect a golden ring to go unnoticed on a farmer's hand anymore than you would expect a ring of banded iron to be worn by a noble lord.
Significance
Even though nearly two centuries have passed since the death of the last known Lesnar, the lineage of the "true" Kaldari king remains a symbol for Kaldari pride and rebellious spirit. While the near myth-like status attributed to The Traitor King, Marcius Lesnar is much more common with the common classes of Kaldari citizens, there are also those in ruling noble classes that have been outed as Lesnar supporters as well - albeit applying their support to loyalist movements much more secretly.
However for those who own the guilt of Kaldaria's part in The Inheritance War, the symbol of Lesnar Loyalists only amplifies their shame and an ever growing movement with Kaldaria seeks to abolish and out what they see as treasonous displays of dangerous arrogance - against both their king and their empress.
