Serene, Speaker of The Goddess
Priestess Serene (a.k.a. Speaker of The Goddess)
Described by Victor Koslov, Lord Paramount of Rystanburg as the most controversial figure in Kaldaria since The Traitor King, Marcius Lesnar, Serene is young, androgynous, and albino child of only 14 years who claims to be able to hear the whispers of The Goddess in her dreams. While these claims were easily dismissed as a young child, as Serene's influence has grown with her age and by the time she reached her teen years she was already creating ripples in the religious pantheon of The Port City of Rystanburg.
With Seren's claims placing an uncomfortable amount of attention on Saint Aether's Cathedral, many demanded Serene be silenced, or banished from the Cathedral altogether. Lead by Cardinal Rosphranco, this group declared Serene's claims as blasphemous and heretical. But her allies in the pantheon, namely Archbishop Fredrich were able to protect her from excommunication and exile, at least for the time being.
The attempts to silence Serene have only emboldened her further, and althought she gains more influence with each passing day her enemies continue to plot against her.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
A frail child of small frame and stature, despite Serene's lack of a dominating physical presence a powerful sense of presence seems to radiate from the child; unnerving even the alvain who have met with the speaker. This commanding presence has allowed Serene to build a trusted retinue of bodyguards and servants to assist her in ways that the weakness of her constitution requires.
Body Features
Lanky and hauntingly thin, Serene's clothes droop off her skeletal frame. Her albinism prevents her from straying too far from the Cathedral grounds, as even the subdued sun of The Central Kaldari Highland Region will burn and blister her paper-thin skin. The albinism has robbed Serene's skin of any pigmentation, instead leaving it as white as a corpse and nearly translucent; exposing the blue veins beneath her skin.
Facial Features
Narrow faced with a high, sharp cheekbones, Serene's most prominent features are the eyes that dominate her otherwise colorless face. Her left eye is a pale yellow, while her right is a sharp red; another side effect from the extreme case of Albinism afflicting Serene. As a result she has exceptionally poor eyesight and is sensitive to bright lights, further encouraging the solitude she takes in the enclosed towers of the cathedral's tower monasteries.
Special abilities
While The Pantheon Of The Goddess has yet to take an offical stance on whether or not they endorse Serene's claims, most of the common believers seems to have taken to the belief that Serene can in fact hear the whispers of The Goddess, and as such has been given prophetic insights into the future. Whether or not there is truth to these claims remains a topic of considerable debate across most of Alwaus.
Apparel & Accessories
As a priestess in The Pantheon Of The Goddess, serene is nearly always wearing the white ceremonial robes that are assigned to a priestess of her station. Humble garments in design, they are well made from fine material. Outside of this Serene is nearly always carrying a worn leather bag with her, once filled to brim with an assortment of various books and tomes that she reads adamantly through the night.
Specialized Equipment
A fervent researcher of Pantheon Tomes and Historical Texts, Serene has recently completed her read through of the entirety of the library in Saint Aether's Cathedral, and has began to have next texts shipped in from other cathedrals and wealth estates.
Outside of her love for reading, Serene has recently taken up playing Piano, a suggestion made to her by Fredrich, Archbishop of Rystanburg to take her mind of the stress of her new situation. She has taken to the instrument with the same tenacity as she peruses her academia and is said to be an excellent pianist.
Mental characteristics
Gender Identity
Androgynous in both appearance and behavior Serene exists as an enigma to the observer. While some look at her and see her as a masculine boy, others look at him and she him as a feminine boy. Serene's "true" gender is a mystery to even her closest allies. If directly questioned about her gender Serene will insist that is simply not important, and instead remind the questioner that it is the message that is important - not the vessel it is delivered in.
Education
Educated by the clergy at Saint Aether's with specific tutoring from Archbishop Fredrich, Serene was raised from birth to be a loyal servant of The Pantheon Of The Goddess. Serene was educated in the history of The Kaldari Highlands and The Eternal Empire and more importantly on the lore and history of the Pantheon's beliefs.
Employment
As a priestess of the pantheon, Serene was responsible for the multitude of tasks assigned to her station, ranging from routine maintenance of the cathedral's estates, collecting tithes from worshipers, assisting with services, and caring for the sick and poor who came to the pantheon for protection. In reality however, Serene's presence was often found to be unnerving for most visitors to the cathedral, and as such she was often given more mundane duties that kept her from public view - a proposal that the young Serene did not protest.
Accomplishments & Achievements
As rumors began circulating The Central Highland Region of a young human child who could hear the voice of The Goddess, pilgrims and skeptics alike began journeying to Rystanburg to either pay respect to, or see this so-called "Speaker of The Goddess" for themselves. Within a year word of Serene's gifts had spread across the empire, raising both interest and concern with pantheon leadership.
Thrust from a position of obscurity and distant contempt form the other clergy, a fourteen year old Serene suddenly found herself at the center of attention across the region - thrust overnight into a world of politics and treachery that disguises itself as spiritualism and divine will - Serene navigated the political games of the politicians and bishops suddenly courting her favor with an aptitude that betrayed her young age. It didn't take long for those who would attempt to control and charm Serene to advance their own agendas to realize that this bizarre child in Rystanburg is impossible to overestimate, and should not be taken lightly regardless of her age and station.
Instead, Serene further displayed her unexpected wisdom by building her own retinue of trusted advisors and protectors - formed largely of those who showed her kindness and courtesy before her favor became such a sought after commodity. Her need for allies continues to grow however, as those who cannot control Serene will surely seek to destroy her.
Mental Trauma
Abandoned on the doorsteps of the cathedral as a newborn baby, Serene never knew her mother and was instead raised with the other orphans under the protection of The Pantheon Of The Goddess. Even as a infant Serene was noticeably different. She never cried, rarely slept, and seemed to watch those around her with her pale yellow/red eyes. As she grew other she was shunned by the other children, whom she did not fit in with - and instead took solace in the dusty tomes she would read in the cathedral's expansive library.
Where many children would have suffered in such solitude; Serene seemed to thrive - caring little for the opinions of the other children, or the caretakers responsible for them. Instead she bonded with a select few members of the clergy - most adults - who were able to look past the child's oddities and strange appearance.
Morality & Philosophy
A devout follower of The Goddess, Serene speaks on the matters of religion, faith, and servitude with a fervor and determination that all but the most fervent preachers posses. Claiming to hear the voice of The Goddess in her dreams, Serene's followers take her instructions as direct commandments from The Goddess herself - a situation that many of the pantheon have described as "dangerous."
Despite the vocal opposition against her, Serene's message is one of peace, love, and understanding; tenants that form a foundational structure for The Pantheon Of The Goddess despite the popularization of more modern takes on the religion's ethos based around beauty, improvement, and prosperity. Whether or not Serene's true intentions line up with her rhetoric remain to be seen, but her words have certainly struck a cord with many followers of The Pantheon, especially among the Kaldari.
