Session 10 - Dreams of Multiattack

General Summary

If Only I Had Multiattack

With Arkyn now sporting an MWD backback, a small shielded bubble moves with him into the miasma. Through the haze of the thinner miasma, two silhouettes emerge: one unconscious on the ground and that of Sayah, standing with daggers drawn. Beyond that, the sounds of a sputtering MWD can be heard as various fungal creatures that have stretched and warped to assume a vaguely humanoid shape approach. Swarms of smaller spore-covered creatures crawl on the ground, moving to surround Sayah and the fallen woman. In the distance, the tallest fungal creature clutches the fractured and broken remains of some piece of farming equipment, now overrun and consumed by fungal spore growths.

Teagan, reacting first, charges bravely out of the protective bubble and into the miasma, getting angry as he arrives next to Sayah. The shifter woman jerks and grins, twitching almost oddly as if fighting against something. Teagan briefly worries if he's about to get stabbed. Yenush and Arkyn both attempt to hit the tall fungus guy in the back, but miss - its fungal body simply shifting and reforming to dodge the attack. A squat fungal creature moves up to Sayah and lands a hit on her, rendering her even more bloody than she was before. The other fungal brute moves up to Teagan, all of its fungal mass shifting to its fist before it attempts to "double-fist" him into a grapple. Seeing Yenush and Arkyn approaching, the tall fungul creature caused the earth to erupt beneath them. Aiaoue gets a Moonbeam up and running before she goes bird and moves into the fray and towards Teagan right before two fungal swarms engulf him. Another swarm hops onto Sayah and another onto Aiaoue. Milo decides to Faerie Fire everyone - good luck Teagan! Sayah, grappled, gently rolls the Eladrin's unconscious body towards Aiaoue who has lowered a wing for a ride.

Teagan makes an attack against the brute grabbing him as Yenush spends his time reloading his gun. They both temporarily ascend to a unified mind where they jointly long for a time, in the near future they think, where they will be able to attack twice. Oh, Multiattack... so close. Arkyn calls to Sayah to fail as he twin casts Vortex Warp to get her and the unconcious Eladrin out of the fray. As Sayah appears, there is most definitely a weird glint in her eye. The other brute, with its target gone, waddles on over to Teagan to contribute to the spore festival Teagan's experiencing. The tall fungus decides that a Fog Cloud atop Teagan would be beneficial. Within a rave-filled fog cloud, Teagan desperately dreams of multiattack as he his assailed by multiple spore-like enemies. Aiaoue angrily gestures and screeches in bird before flying towards the tall fungus. Cadence desperately attempts to fail something; the darkness beckons just out of reach. Milo shifts to healing and Starry Wisp combos, staying well within the MWD bubble. Arkyn goes to cast Silvery barbs as Sayah's attention snaps to him... something just tried to eat that spell. Huh.

As the fight progresses, Aiaoue starts playing an odd game of leap frog with the tall fungus, herself, and her moonbeam. Arkyn and Yenush collectively decide that Teagan can take it. Yenush fires directly down the line of fungal creatures, hitting almost all of them... and also hitting Teagan. A voice from the fog cloud yells out "Did I just get SHOT?". Arkyn casts Shatter, hitting all of the fungal enemies... and Teagan... and causing 3 of the swarms to explode... on Teagan, but he resists the poison they release upon their death. The tall fungus decides that fog cloud has been around enough and instead casts confusion on Arkyn, Milo, and Yenush. Sayah seems to have a change of goals as she leaves the Eladrin woman on the ground to insteaad glomp onto Arkyn: "Hey there, moon boy."

As the fight progresses, the tall fungus joins the fight on Teagan. When Teagan drops, Milo gets him up with a cry of "Your family needs you!". Aiaoue pursues and, after grabbing its staff to aid in her deception, loudly declares: "How dare you say Cadence is a bad spell caster! Go say that to her face!" Aiaoue casts Elementalism and has the words "NO" appear directly in front of Cadence, who doesn't very much like that and is immediately consumed in darkness, her spite directed at the tall fungus. Slowly, the fungal creatures are widdled away and reduced. Arkyn stops participating in the fight in favor of attempting to elbow Sayah who's... doing nothing, obviously nothing. Cadence moves towards the tall fungus only to get charmed, attacking Teagan and Milo before regaining her senses. Eventually, the last of the fungal creatures fall and everyone quickly falls back to the MWD bubble.

As the group leaves the confines of the miasma and returns the MWD backpack to the dwarven acolyte, Arkyn notices that his Turtle Brooch is missing.

The Aftermath of Shrooms

As most of the group rushes the Eladrin woman to the Ohn'Lee Clinic, Arkyn pursues Sayah. Although he initially loses her, the discovery that his sending stone is missing drives him to desperately beseech one of her birds. Arkyn finds Sayah perched atop a rooftop once more, looking distant and far off. Are you okay? Can I have the sending stone back? You can keep everything else, I just need the sending stone back. Sayah looks insulted: Are you accusing me of stealing? Arkyn assures Sayah that he knows that wasn't her; and it wasn't him when he tried to push her off the rooftop. Sayah reiterates that she doesn't think it's a good idea that they are near each other. Arkyn does not agree with that sentiment. Reluctantly, Sayah allows Arkyn to join her on the roof.

Sayah produces a sending stone from her bag as she informs Arkyn that he will have to "pry it away from her"... and Arkyn does. As they touch, Sayah feels a surge of confidence and her grip momentarily tightens on the Sending Stone. However, Arkyn is able to take it back. Arkyn discusses his experience and mentions that he's spoken to Khalil and that "pings" (as he calls them) happen on Legacy. Sayah seems momentarily irked that Arkyn might have shared her business with other people. With a sigh, Sayah mentions that she seemingly can't stop taking things. Arkyn certainly wouldn't understand her circumstances; he's not from a clan that just recently (in the grand scheme of history) got its rights back. Sayah pulls open her pouch and reveals that (beneath all the items she stole from Arkyn) is a handful of pristine Jade gemstones. Sayah mentions that they are holy gems, taken from a ritual site between Antiek'Vee and Ma'Paka Forests. She tried to put them back, but physically couldn't. Arkyn offers to help if he can and mentioned that he felt an "intrigue" towards Sayah before the ping. After prying back his lute, Arkyn plays a tune as Sayah rests (still bloody and bleeding).

The rest of the group arrives at the clinic with Evandra, the unconscious Eladrin woman. Viren immediately springs into action. Although he carries cleric supplies, he begins to ritual cast in a way more akin to a mage or wizard, consulting tomes and books with every step. Despite his stuttering, lack of rizz, and general lack of confidence in anything about himself, Viren is incredibly competent at what he does. After a bit, Evandra's breathing seems stronger and Viren settles back. It may be a bit before she wakes, but she'll be in good hands here; he's handled diseases of the miasma before.

Everyone settles down to rest in the clinic, while Yenush decides that now is the perfect time to brush up on his fiddle. Over the span of an hour, he VERY clearly notices Viren glancing at him. That doesn't seem like just admiration. Milo asks if people would grant him permission to write about them in his article to the paper back in Eredet. Aiaoue agrees on the condition that Milo tells Viren about how he met his wife. Viren seems to really be struggling with the first steps of finding love.

Before leaving the clinic, Milo mentions that Viren is incredibly talented. He's seen plenty of healers back on Dremora, and Viren is perhaps one of the best. Viren brushes off the compliments - he's certain a properly trained Carmenthian healer would be far more efficient than he. Back on Dremora, he was a sickly child and taught himself healing magic. After a while, his sister, Omarosa, took them to Legacy. Since he's arrived here, he's felt the healthiest he ever has. Aiaoue remarks that he's where he belongs then. Yes, perhaps he is. Now, who wants to help prepare for a Gotcha Day party? A what? Aiaoue explains that it's the day Zix got... or maybe Briella got Zix? Either way, it is the day Briella's parents died. Milo is confused and wants that clarified so he doesn't get the wrong kind of card.

It's a Gotcha Day Party

Aiaoue finds Briella in the tavern kitchen. Together, under some minor supervision from Jin (who is mostly there to find needed supplies), they whip up a spread of seafood including shrimp dumplings formed into the shape of shrimp (and fried), a charcuterie board, and two special bowls of banana pudding for Briella and Zix. Yenush begins to rearrange the tavern space to a layout more appropriate for a party. Shortly after, the rest of the group arrives with "dollar store level" decorations from the Theater. There's a winter section, a spring section, a princess section, and there's a section for a holiday called "Halloween" that Teagan invented. A little ways into their preparation, Mistress Eight arrives and Jin passes out. Milo attempts to use Thaumaturgy to wake Jin up, which only succeeds in annoying Teagan for some reason.

When Zix arrives, everyone yells "SURPRISE" (to Briella's delight) as the massive lizardfolk has to almost squeeze himself delicately through the door. After sampling a few of the shrimp dumplings, Zix's face broadens into a toothy grin. He gives Briella a hug and offers a hand to Aiaoue before he loudly calls for VODKA SHOTS. Everyone eat! Arkyn decides that now is the perfect time for the band to get started. Milo's pride will not allow him to engage in such shenanigans, but Cadence, Arkyn, Teagan, and Yenush perform remarkably well for never having formally all played together before.

Viren, true to his word, does arrive a little ways into the party. Aiaoue invites him to "sideways pace" with her and Briella. The trio of them dance beneath the dollar-store disco ball. Yenush notes that Briella tends to keep her distance from him and is always glancing at his arm; he, however, decides that is a problem for another time as he goes to stop Arkyn from blatantly taking alcohol from behind the bar.

Milo eventually moves over to the dancing trio. The moment Milo mentions that he's married, Viren remarks: "HOW", his voice cracking in odd desperation. Milo explains that he and his wife grew up together (and Viren's face falls). Do you have your eye set on someone Viren? He blatantly looks at Yenush. Poking and prodding a bit, Viren admits that he likes things to be in an orderly fashion. Milo has a sudden thought: What DO we know about Yenush? Aiaoue remarks that he likes law, and arresting people, and order. He doesn't like to read (Viren's face falls a little bit), but he likes dogs! Viren likes animals! Milo mentions that you know they're the one when you want to spend more time with them than without them. Viren retorts: How do I spend time with them?

After putting their heads together, Milo and Aiaoue know that Yenush tinkers... is there something broken in the clinic that Viren needs fixed? With surprising confidence, Viren mentions that he'll ask Syrio to break something that's non-critical to clinic function. He smiles and walks off, heading back to the clinic. Milo isn't so certain that this is the plan he intended for Viren to pursue. Zix pulls Aiaoue aside and gives her a metallic coil-like bracelet as thanks for helping Briella.

Yenush and Arkyn, after some discussion, go up to Teagan. Arkyn apologies for casting Shatter on Teagan and after dramatically throwing his head to the side, he decalres: "YOU MAY PUNCH." Yenush similarly apologizes for shooting Teagan and offers himself up to get punched. Teagan, after a moment, settles on konking their heads together with Arkyn having to bend down quite a bit. You did well, kids.

As the night winds down, Aiaoue - exhausted - heads to bed. Cadence, Teagan, and Milo also make their way back to their rooms. Yenush goes for a run before hitting the hay. Arkyn delivers some alcohol to Sayah who still has a far off look in her eyes and gets a response from his sending stone.
“History is painted by a curated palette; Secrets are buried and truth obscured by time. A better question: Why hide it? Regardless, we continue forward.”

Everyone dreams as they rest except Teagan... who still sleeps fitfully.

Aiaoue's Dream

Water ripples, cooling and soothing your skin. It is nostalgic, a faint memory. Light streams down through a carefully crafted trap door in a wooden floor. Through the water’s surface you see a familiar silhouette. A familiar hand reaches for you as you ascend. And then a song shatters the water.   You pull yourself through, up and out of the water… but it is not your home you find. A long wooden pier stretches out over the water, waves gently rolling on either side. Through the thick layer of fog and haze, you see the silhouette of a beach beyond… and the gentle incline of a mountainside. A figure stands a little way down the pier, between you and the edge of the fog, facing away. Shoulder-length dark hair drifts in the breeze; a few petals break free of the flowers pinned in their hair.   Angry silhouettes – their outlines crackling with red-hot anger – emerge from the fog, marching down the pier. The figure with flowers in their hair holds up their hands; you notice slight webbing between their fingers. You blink. You stare back through the hole in the wooden pier you climbed out of. The rolling water more tumultuous. Beneath the waves… the water has been stained red. Petals rise to the surface, waterlogged and bloodstained. The faint outline of a silhouette sinks, drifting without resistance towards the depths.   Hands settle upon your shoulders, a soft yet firm grip. The glint of jewelry visible in your periphery.
I have done thee a favor. Secured him close to your heart. Now, you shall never drift apart.
You feel warm. The familiar feeling of being encased by a feathery form. For a moment, Alcide holds you, his whistle-like song soft and comforting. And then his body collapses against you, unmoving.

Arkyn's Dream

When sleep claims you, Nefeli lies at your feet, flowers arranged around her as she rests. You are compelled to kneel… to place a hand upon her shoulder. And her body gives way, shattering into small gems that glow like shards of soft silver light… they reveal a silver path that twists and winds, rising as if ascending along a steep cliff.   As you rise to your feet, a wolf walks past you, stopping a few feet ahead to turn back and gaze at you. Streaks of silver stand out against its mostly purple-black fur. Its eyes are black as night, save for a thin silver iris. Together, you travel the silver path. With every step, a small silver stone spirals off the edge only to ascend into the darkened expanse all around you, twinkling like stars. When you glance at their light, a wave of gentle sorrow washes over you followed by a sense of relief, of peace, of contentment.   The wolf progresses ahead of you as you near the cliff’s edge. You hear waves crashing down somewhere far below. And at the edge, a silhouette stands: broad shoulders partially obscured by long hair that drifts in the breeze. As the wolf approaches the silhouette, its form shifts. Fur melts away, claws and fangs retract, and the limbs find a new configuration until there is only a feminine, humanoid silhouette. Together, the two silhouettes stand, lined by silver light.   You blink. Your hands are stained red with blood. The wolf lies beneath you, blood matted into the fur of its neck. Its eye stares up at you, lifeless. Blood stains the silver path. She was beyond saving. It had to be done. You give the wolf’s body a push. As it begins to roll over the cliff’s edge, it shifts. For a moment, Nefeli’s eyes stare at you – full of life, hope, joy, and relief… before they widen to panic.   Her fingers slip through your grasp as she falls… Your body fails you. It had to be done. But what hope is there now… if she is gone?

Cadence's Dream

The heavy footfalls of the drakes hauling the wagons over gentle, rolling grasslands is a familiar, comforting rhythm. As night crawls across the sky, you turn to the moon for guidance as you have hundreds of times before. Regardless, the drakes know this path and they lead you to a clear pool of water. The moon and stars are reflected brilliantly in its surface. As you step towards the water’s edge, the landscape shifts. Darkened marshes and the sounds of bubbling swamp surround you. Those with you are suddenly afraid, but there is nothing to fear… not for you, at least. For there is beauty in the darkness.   You lead the drakes onward, unperturbed, until you reach a wall of bramble. There, a figure composed entirely of darkness stands, barely visible in the night. With a quick strike, the brambles are struck down, hissing and recoiling as they rot in front of your eyes. The figure vanishes and you continue onward, your path no longer blocked. Through the darkness, those who travel with you fall to illness, to plague, and to rot until only you remain. Again, you reach a pool of water. At its murky edge you stand… and in your distorted reflection, you see a silhouette of pure darkness staring back.   Lightning strikes. Something lands at your feet… a head, recently decapitated. Rage bubbles and boils within you. Darkness spreads from where you stand like parasitic roots, aggressive and unrelenting.
None shall command me. My shackles are broken. Spread my darkness, bring them all to rot.

Milo's Dream

The Tower Citadel stands tall, sparkling in the light of the setting sun. You stroll through the familiar streets of Eredet, hand in hand with Chloe as she holds Marcus in her arms. You pause as Marcus points towards the grand Citadel, sparkling in the light. You gaze not at the Citadel, but at your wife and child. For they are everything.     There’s a flash of something in the sky, an explosion, cries of panic and alarm as the Tower Citadel groans. The distance between you and your wife suddenly stretches. As the Tower leans and groans, Chloe yells out for you. With every ounce of strength, you run. You run… away.   You blink. You are in a barren field with tufts of dying grass drifting lazily in a gentle wind, singing a faint echo of a tragic ballad. The smell of iron hits your nostrils. A rusted sword lies below you, impaled in the dirt. A pool of crimson red rests just ahead. The horse beneath you shifts, shaking its head to indicate its impatience. The silhouettes of hundreds of mounted figures stretch out in your peripheral vision on both sides. Your ears begin to ring, your vision blurs. A weight settles on you, sudden and heavy. You are not supposed to be here.   You turn to the left. From the line of mounted figures, one emerges. The figure is cloaked. Steam radiates off the horse’s flesh and its eyes glow. The massive steed chomps at the bit with a vengeance and stomps the ground with impatience. The figure atop it lowers its lance and not even a second passes before the horse charges.     The other mounted figures charge, but you do not fall in beside them. The ground shakes with the force of their charge. Your breathing quickens, your chest constricts… And you stand upon the blood-stained ground, bodies strewn everywhere. A single horse, steam radiating off it, approaches. The horse strides past you, the form atop it bloodstained, unmoving… tragic.

Yenush's Dream

In your years of service, you have walked the perfectly symmetrical halls of the House of Law. Though you are one among many, you are trusted… you were chosen. Down the hallway you walk, passing doors to smaller courts and acolytes debating the latest trial nearby. It is familiar as if plucked directly from your memory.   But it is also not. The pillars that line the halls are older than you remember, inscribed with text in a language you do not recognize. There are no dwarves lining the halls. Instead, you dodge out of the way of a pair of gnomish scholars. The doors that should lead to courtrooms lead only to halls lined with shelves of papyrus scrolls and clay tablets. The hairs on the back of your neck rise.   The doors to the High Judge’s court loom ahead. Normally, they are flanked by warforged guards donning robes of purple trimmed with gold. You blink. Your body tenses, hand going to your pistol subconsciously. There are no warforged guards. On either side of the hallway, a line of tabaxi and leonin women stand; their faces obscured by bronze and gold masks adorned with wings. From their backs, wings sit neatly folded. The masks turn to face you.   A hand rests upon your shoulder, metal and familiar. A brief touch as Query passes, continuing down the hallway, either ignoring the line of unfamiliar intruders in the House of Law… or unaware. Upon reaching the doors, Query pushes them open. Judgement awaits.   Despite your instincts screaming to flee, you walk forward. The masked faces turn to track your motion as you progress. The figures make no other movement. You pass through the doors and find yourself in a field that stretches out before you in all directions. You hear padded footsteps fall into line behind you. Together you shall hunt. The snake cannot evade you forever. You will crush him and end his mockery.
