Legacy

In the past 100 years, a small town has been established on the miasma infested continent of Jalasar. With the use of air-cleaning technology (namely the Miasma-Warding Device), IronForge arcane engines, and committed and powerful arcane casters, the curious, stupid, bold, and rejected have managed to survive, conducting forays into the broader continent. Despite their “success”, the town is always in need of able hands and new recruits to ensure the town (and the crucial research occurring there) survives!
Legacy is always in need of volunteers to undertake risky voyages into the miasma!   Don't be alarmed, however! IronForge technology has been implemented for YOUR protection!
The small frontier town of Legacy is both backwater and technologically advanced. It is both a mixture of all aspects of Dremora and something completely different and unique. Gold has little to no meaning, but favors, trade, and barter mean everything. Here, surrounded by the miasma, unity and cooperation are required for survival. Everyone has a role to play to prevent disaster from occurring.

Basic History

In 2148 YAR, the first group of brave (or foolish) people arrived on a small island off the Western coast of the broader Jalasar continent. Equipped with fuel cell reserves, Miasma-Warding Devices (MWDs), and arcane engines, they sought to establish a town – a launching point from which the lost history and relics of the continent could be discovered. However, in 2155 YAR, disaster struck. All the MWDs in place around the perimeter of town failed. The only survivors were members of the Church of The Void who were protected by The Void Maiden until a single MWD could be brought back online.

Despite the disaster, the town persisted. The arrival of Dunebrook and Ironborn (2161-2164 YAR) stabilized the security of Legacy’s perimeter. With both geniuses present, malfunctions with the MWDs became less frequent (and less severe when they did occur). With the miasma more securely kept at bay, Legacy began to flourish… or at least as much as a town built upon the corpse of the past can.

Most of Legacy’s buildings are built of basic materials: sturdy wood (imported) and stone (mined and imported). Although there are a few larger structures – The Academic Center, the Church, and Legacy Hall – the remaining buildings are generally single story with perhaps a half loft, a small second story, or a haphazard arrangement of “extra pieces” (e.g., towers, extra rooms, half floors, etc.) Exterior embellishments are generally limited to wood and stone carvings or engravings, though interiors may have more comfortable and detailed furnishings (though hardly luxurious by, say, the standards of Eredet).

A Note on Technology: An old model of the Iron Arrow was imported in 2171 YAR at request of the Void Maiden. Once modified to support multiple MWDs, tracks were laid into the miasma. As the tracks expanded, expeditions teams began to make longer trips into the miasma, bringing back small trinkets and relics that had survived the cataclysm that drove the continent to extinction. Later, in 2202 YAR, the recently retired Iron Arrow 3.0 was imported, replacing the damaged and worn down 2.0 model.

Politics

The political leadership of Legacy is fluid and dynamic with no one holding any formal office. Generally, leadership of Legacy is entrusted to those with the power to ensure Legacy’s survival. Notably, this includes two organizations: The Church of The Void and the Academic Center. However, anyone can call for a discussion, forum, or hearing in Legacy Hall.

Economy

In a town far removed from Dremora, gold has little value. Trade, barter, and favors are the preferred currency in Legacy. Gold, however, is needed to support Legacy. The frontier town is dependent upon constant import of food and supplies, including pieces, parts, and materials to support the technology that keeps the town alive. The gold for such expenses comes from donations of wealthy patrons on Dremora who are invested in the success of Legacy and from recovered relics that have been deemed suitable for transport back to Dremora (for further investigation and conservation).

People

Legacy is composed of a mixture of races. The people of Legacy usually fall into one of four categories:
  1. Criminals, convicts, and the falsely accused that chose Legacy as their punishment.
  2. The desperate, down-on-their luck folks looking for an escape or a chance at something new.
  3. The curious and adventurous who want to contribute to the rediscovery of lost history... or perhaps find other answers.
  4. Those who were born in Legacy... a miasma-covered world is all they know.

Religion

Unlike the continent of Dremora, the dominant religion in Legacy is the Cult of The Void. On the other side of the Barrier and obscured by miasma, connections to the Dremoran Pantheon are thinned and strained. The Void, however, is active and present in Legacy. The members of the Cult actively contribute to the town’s survival. However, there are plenty who still worship the Dremoran Pantheon and a few who follow and serve the Order of Blood.

Citizens of Legacy

Legacy depends upon the constant work, ingenuity, and collaboration of its populace to persist in an incredibly hostile environment. It is a community, a defensible position in times of danger, and a base to always return to when rest, respite, and resupply are needed. Any citizen of Legacy must meet the following stipulations:
  1. Employment – Citizens must partake in some job or trade that bolsters, supports, or otherwise promotes the persistence and advancement of Legacy.
  2. Expeditions – Citizens (with some exceptions) are to receive an expedition team designation and must respond when called to handle potentially dangerous tasks important to the success of Legacy.
By meeting the above stipulations, a citizen of Legacy is guaranteed basic food, a decent place to sleep, and medical attention if needed. They are also permitted to attend and vote in any forums or hearings held at Legacy Hall.
