Melé Alkabahar

Steps clatter against broken pavement, kicking up dirt and dust as you desperately try to outrun them. You curse at yourself for taking that dare to enter the old mausoleum at the edge of town. Now you hear howling and scraping and shrieking as the creatures you unwittingly unleashed begin to catch up to your scrambling feet.   With a sudden jerk, a hand grabs you from a nearby alleyway and you are dragged away from the street. With a loud howl, the creatures that have been chasing you run past the alleyway except for one ghoulish corpse that catches you out of the corner of its eye and turns towards you.   Before you or the creature can even react, a dark hand reaches around you and a bright light fills your vision. You blink, your vision clears, and you only see the blackened and unmoving corpse of the creature and the barest shine of a glowing sword as it disappears around the corner.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Melé isn't incredibly strong considering the gigantic sword that she wields, but she is quite agile and she is adept at using her weight to her advantage.

Body Features

She has dark chocolate-coloured skin which makes her blue tattoo-like markings stand out.

Special abilities

Her connection to her goddess gives her divine power, but her powers are not for healing; they are for exacting vengeance on the enemies of her goddess.

Apparel & Accessories

Melé wears common Hayim dresses and robes over her leather armour and uses a large grey cloak to cover over her sword. The Vengeful Goddess of the Three is attached in a clasp to her brown leather belt.

Specialized Equipment

Leather armour and a greatsword are constantly on her person, even when she sleeps. Due to her reckless nature, the Drakeslayers commonly let her carry the healing potions in the group.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Born to a rich merchant family on The Rings, Melé grew up watching the boats leave the Kingdom of Hayim-controlled islands, wondering where they went and whether they would ever come back. As the child of a powerful middle-class family, she got a good education where she excelled in religious studies and history. While her obsession with history was relatively benign, her love of religious texts was to be her calling.   Once she was old enough, her father let her sail on some of his trade routes, and she got to know them like the back of her hand. While she didn't talk much, and her love of reading made it hard to talk with the illiterate crews, she enjoyed the time spent on the water.   Eventually, Melé became interested in a lost text entitled The Vengeful Goddess of the Three . Her search brought her to a boarded-up shop in the Bindi marketplace once known for owning the most comprehensive set of religious texts in the world. She quickly found it and opened it. Little did she know that the goddess herself had plans for her. The moment the book opened, a bright light began to issue from her eyes and nose which left blue streaks like tattoos down her face. She hadn't just learned about the warrior-priests of Yali; she had become one of them, a rightful sword in Yali's hand and a dispenser of Her justice on the wicked.   If only the priests and common folk had believed her. Branded a heretic and a fool for trying to vie for the favour of the Goddess, Melé fled her country and journeyed into The Gratic Empire in search of a chance to prove her worth.

Education

Melé grew up learning various topics such as history, geography, and religion from a tutor.

Intellectual Characteristics

Melé doesn't worry about reason or logic when thinking through problems. She mostly goes with her gut feeling, despite any evidence to the contrary.

Morality & Philosophy

Melé deals in mostly absolutes, dividing people and actions into good and evil. She sticks, of course, to kind actions herself.

Taboos

Melé feels incredibly uncomfortable near temples or proponents of other religions.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Melé wants to prove to the priests that her way of worship is equally as important as teaching the common people right from wrong. She hopes that, through her deeds, that they will understand the importance of heroic acts.   Besides this, she wants to defeat as many evil demons and corrupt people as she can, just as her goddess wants.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Melé's childhood obsession with reading means that she is incredibly knowledgeable about history, religion, and geography. She also became very agile and quick from her time as a sailor.

Likes & Dislikes

Melé is not very comfortable in social interactions, so she dislikes having to talk for long periods of time.   Reading and her daily prayers are things that she finds comforting after a long day.

Virtues & Personality perks

Melé has many positive qualities and virtues:
  • She is incredibly honest and finds it difficult to lie;
  • She is very humble and doesn't do what she does for money or fame; and
  • A need and drive to do good by people.

Vices & Personality flaws

Melé is still subject to character flaws, including:
  • A fatalistic need to defeat evil or die trying, which makes her reckless; and
  • A reluctance to mention what is bothering her.

Hygiene

Good hygiene is very important to her, and she is often caught shaving and bathes as often as she can get the chance.

Social

Contacts & Relations

  • The other members of the Drakeslayers have fought alongside her and helped her in dire straits.
  • She has completed work for The Stalwart Shield and earned their respect.
  • The Magistrate of Freebrook is a good friend of her due to her protection of his town.

Family Ties

Her family still lives on the Rings, and are presumably alive and well.

Social Aptitude

Melé hangs back in social interactions, preferring to let others make the hard choices. She is very humble to the point of not caring too hard about her own well-being. Her background as a middle-class merchant means she understands basic etiquette.

Speech

Her voice is sweet and warbling, with a distinct Hayim accent.

Wealth & Financial state

Melé doesn't carry a lot of money, mostly because she doesn't like to be given a large reward in money for a task. What money she has she holds onto to pay for food and travel.
