The Essel Rebellion
"As the darkness lifted and the morning of the revolutionary's execution came, it was impossible to reach the town square for all of the people that had come to see him. The crowd was jeering and yelling loudly, pleading for his life or screaming curses at the grats who would be responsible for his death this morning. But as dawn approached, the crowd began to pack into the main square. The death itself was remarkably quick, with Diesic not even bothering with his usual rousing speech as he went up to the headsman's axe. He didn't struggle, didn't even flinch as the axe swung down and severed his head. The head rolled off of the stage and into the crowd, and it was never seen again, presumably brought back to his family or kept as a relic by the people he had fought so long to free." ~Robet Stagéri, Account of the Revolution
Structure
The organization is a loosely-working confederation of various rebellious factions that share one united purpose. As such, the organization is very loose, with a rebel captain being in charge of each band of rebels and each of them knowing of other rebel factions in their area.
Public Agenda
- The end of The Gratic Empire's influence and power in Essel, and the reinstitution of that region's old monarchy.
- The promotion of traditional Essic culture over the Gratic one imposed by the Empire.
Assets
Some members of this sect are in positions of power, with a couple of Imperial Army captains and local Lord Mayors being at least sympathetic to their cause. Some of them are merchants or nobility and so the organization has a large amount of funds. Regardless of their patronage, a band of rebels will always be armed and their camps will be trapped and/or fortified.
History
The proud nature of the Essic people means that this organization has existed in some form or shape for much of the past three centuries, first when the region was under Llenic rule and later when the Empire took over. Their power came to a head in the major Essel Rebellion of 175 II , where their leader Diesic Isellaf led his people in large battles against the Gratic regime. It was only with the death of Diesic that the rebellion was crushed, although members of this organization are still in hiding, waiting for the next revolution.
