The Battle of St. Albans

Military action

Summer A.D. 495

All the knights of Logres gather to stop the Saxon advance at the city of St. Albans. Though King Uther is so ill he is born on a litter, the knights of Logres triumph against the barbarian horde. Our knights adventurous save the life of Count Roderick and slay their Saxon rival Saexwulf.

King Uther, born atop a litter, led an army of 5,000 knights and 25,000 footmen to fight the Saxons at the city of St. Albans. Upon the arrival of the army, peasants told our knights that the Saxons had arrived first and had sacked the city. Sir Bradwen took this news to Count Roderick, who thanked him for his service and told him he was one of his best knights and that Count Roderick wished to do him some special honor after the battle. Roderick then asked Bradwen to take the news he had learned to King Uther.   When our knights arrived, Uther would not see them, but Duke Ulfius took the news and gave it to Uther. Uther sent forward a contingent of his own knights into the city, who were caught in a trap and had to flee the city. Our knights aided in their escape.   It was clear Uther's normal tactical genius was not with him, and melancholy descended upon the army. Our knights were visited by Sir Cantus, who told them that ever since his captivity by Lady Seife he had had strange dreams that seemed to come true, and that he had had a persistent dream of Lady Siefe sitting upon a mountain of corpses and feared it might soon come true. Disturbed by this news, Sir Felix sought a priest for confession.   Before the battle, Sir Bradwen asked Sir Felix if he would take the hand of his sister Lady Morwenna and Sir Felix accepted.   The next day, the armies of the Saxons and Britons met in a savage battle. At first, things went ill for the army of King Uther, but in time the battle turned. Uther even killed a Saxon berserker from atop his litter.   Our knights, for their part, rescued Count Roderick when he was unhorsed, facing off against their old rival Saexwulf. The fight was fierce, but inspired by his passionate hatred of the Saxons, Sir Felix cut the head from Saexwulf's shoulders.   During the battle, Sir Monroe was gravely injured and was taken to the hospital. Monroe was not alone, for Duke Ulfius and Sir Brastius were also similarly injured.
