Las Venus
Las Venus, sometimes called New Vegas, is the second-most populous city on the planet Venus. It is a UNF-governed city, although the majority of the citizens hail from the United States. Las Venus, like its namesake, is a galactically renowned major resort city, known for gambling, shopping, dining, entertainment, and nightlife, with the center of it all in the Las Venus Strip.
Demographics
Las Venus is far and away most populated by humans, led by the White, Black, Hispanic, and Asian demographic groups. Las Venus is also quite a tourist hotspot, from all corners of the galaxy, lending it to a sizable percentage of extraterrestrial intelligence life. Humans take up around 90% of the intelligent population, with the rest devoted to offworld species.
Government
The city has a council-manager government, with the mayor as the council member-at-large who presides over all city council meetings. The City Manager oversees the administration and day-to-day operations of all government departments, maintaining the relationships between other governments on Venus as well as the United Nation Federation.
Infrastructure
Like all other cities on Venus, Las Venus is suspended mid-air just over 34 miles into Venus' atmosphere, where atmospheric pressure and average temperature are suitable for human habitability. Also like other suspended cities on the planet, Las Venus uses a mixture of powerful thrusters located on the underside of the city, graviton technology, and helium tanks located on the roof of the city.
Las Venus is also a fully enclosed city with an atmosphere of 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, and 1% trace gases like water vapor and argon. This infrastructure allows Las Venusians to traverse the city in typical clothes, without special technology like a spacesuit.
History
The Las Vegas of Earth was known to have been largely started by the American mob. In a similar way, Las Venus was largely started by a corporate mob. A small handful of entertainment corporations from Earth, during the Great Solar Migration, funded joint construction efforts to build a city in the skies, like Cloud Nine. These companies pooled their money to create the famous three levels, and all of the technology that suspends the city in the Venusian sulfuric acid clouds. As of 2101, corporate influence and power over Las Venus remains.
Points of interest
The most well-known region of the city is the Las Venus Strip, named for a conceptually similar region just outside Las Vegas city limits, is the center of the gambling and entertainment industry. The "strip" refers to a specific "level" of the floating city, the only one completely encased with a forcefield (and, hence, the only one clearly visible from the outside.
The Upper City, however, is the most populated as it is where most of the residential areas are located. As the name suggests, the Upper City is the area of the floating city that is located on top of the Strip. The Upper City is also home to many hotels, as well as most of the docking bays in Las Venus.
The Lower City is mostly industrial, typically where infrastructure maintenance crews go to work. The Lower City is extremely loud, as it is the location of the large thruster that helps keep the city afloat.
Tourism
Tourism is the primary driver of the Las Venusian economy; tens of thousands of tourists visit the city every day for the two major attractions: the casinos and the hotels.
There are almost 2,000 casinos in Las Venus, with the biggest of them pulling in over ψ80 million of revenue per day. Many of these are also a single entertainment/hospitality business that operate both a casino and a hotel.
