Beinn Aerthar
Beinn Aerthar rises out of the sacred forest of Coille Òran to a height of 1,558 feet, making it the highest point in the Arcaibh Islands. While it is of a modest elevation compared to mountains elsewhere in the Great Ring, the inhabitants of Motha and the Arcaibh are proud of their mountain.
The peak of the mountain is perpetually wreathed in mist and fog, hanging as a cloud over the forest below. Its name translates to "Mountain of Ether," alluding to the mystical qualities the locals acribe to it. Trees blanket the lower slopes, but give way to bare rock and heather higher up.
Notable Spirits
Beinn Aerthar lies within the domain of the Aonadharc, the patron god of Motha, and no greater spirit resides on the mountain itself. The clouds around the mountain are home to numerous spirits known as spunks who appear as tiny specks of light - these are known to play tricks on those who attempt to scale the mountain and will lead the foolish down dangerous paths and over cliff edges. Spunks can change their appearance to seem like a lantern in the distance, and have also been known to mimic human voices.Geography
Beinn Aerthar is formed of a curved ridge, roughly shaped like a 'J'. The highest point is on the northern end, and there is a menhir dedicated to the Aonadharc there. The upper portions of the mountain are bare rock, without the soil to support much plant life. Heather bushes do grow in places, and mosses and liverworts can be found all over the mountain. There is a particular species of liverwort that grows at the very peak of the mountain - it is said that this can be dried and used to neutralize poisons, but only if collected with the blessing of the Aonadharc.
