Durmchapel
Government
Durmchapel has long been ruled by the noble house of Delacourt. They demand unusually low taxes, and rarely make an appearance outside of their manor.
Defences
An old crumbling stone wall surrounds the town. It has to be regularly maintained. A small force of empire Auxilia stand guard, but mainly perform civic duties, especially maintaining Durmchapel's oddly complex sewer system.
Industry & Trade
Trade in durmchapel is minimal. It's main export back down The Spine, is chopped and polished lumber from Saker's Point. Consequently, the most common profession in Durmchapel is woodcutters and carpenters.
Sword coast shipping operate a small warehouse and dockyard that can support the loading and unloading of cargo to one ship at a time on the river.
Infrastructure
Durmchapel has access to a small dock within it's wall that goes onto the river leading out the sea. Durmchapel has unusually complicated and advanced sewers for a town of it's size, and it is not uncommon to see scholars of engineering travel north to study it.
History
Durmchapel is an old town. It existed at the heart of a province in the marshy north long before the Junii Empire came to claim it. It is considered a town, but is actually the largest settlement in the entire province, acting as it's de-facto capital.
When the empire claimed dominion over Rothya, the simpler people of Durmchapel did not particurlarly notice or care. The empire quickly discovered that the territories of the far north were not of particular value, nor prone to uprisings, civil trouble or rebellion. As long as the people were allowed to continue living there lives, and keeping to there ways and tradition of woodcutting and what farming they could achieve, the people of Durmchapel were happy. The empire allowed the noble family of Delacourt to remain in their seat of power, and formally granted the then current Baron of Durmchapel the position of Praetor.Remove these ads.
