Jeeta
Need to buy something? Jeeta. Need to sell something? Jeeta. Want someone dead? Jeeta. It's all here my friend, I hope you know how to watch your purse and how to barter.
Jeeta is a large city seated in a province of the same name. It is the only major settlement within the province. Jeeta is independent of any nation or kingdom since the Lissessos Accords were ratified. Jeeta is infamous for it's unregulated bazaars and markets, some of which are the largest in the known world.
Government
Jeeta is administrated and governed by the Patron Council. Being a patron entitles you to a attend an exclusive chamber within the House of Commerce where decisions about civic matters such as infrastructure, expansion, trade tariffs, and potential defence are discussed.
Political decisions made by the Jeeta administration are always to protect their assets and profits, and conventional laws are extremely liberal, only existing to protect the overall revenue of the city, disregarding topics such as personal security and safety. (Unless you can pay for it).
Defences
Jeeta is surrounded by a low height wall, dotted with lookout towers that are not particurlarly maintained well.
The wall itself is patrolled more thoroughly near the housing districts, and much less so around the slums and high density areas.
The garrison consists entirely of soldiers in the Jeeta Defense Guild. This guild is effectivily a mercenary company that has the specific focus of patrolling the city and walls, and enforcing order to minimise the impact on commerce.
The Jeeta Defense Guild screens recruits carefully. They pay well, and will usually only enroll veteran soldiers or experienced mercenaries. Due to this, Jeeta is protected by an unusually proficient and competent guard force.
Guilds and Factions
Many guilds and smaller organisations do trade through Jeeta. The exact number of them is always changing, and seasonal trade is common. Having a store or a stall is expensive, and traders of all sizes are always exposed to the danger of being muscled-out or brought-out by bigger or more cunning competition.
Only the largest and most prestigious of enterprises can hope to claim an office in the legendary House of Commerce. Ferocious bidding wars, underhanded tactics, and expensive favours are commonplace between guilds competing for a spot in this prestigious and exclusive community.
History
Originally a Kharathi province, Jeeta has had a strange and bloody history. It's strategic location, and it's existance as the only connecting landmass between The Grand Confederacy of Kharathi and the Junii Empire meant that it saw the most intense fighting of The Dustbound Crusade
After the Lissessos Accords were signed, both factions agreed to abandon the entire province of Jeeta, leaving a 'buffer zone' between the two rival nations.
Abandoned by there people, and left to fend for themselves, many of Jeetas former citizens fled in all directions of the globe.
Those that stayed however, saw opportunity. Twin coasts to the north and south. A direct trade route between the most powerful and the most wealthiest kingdoms in the world. Jeeta grew rapidly out of the ashes of war to become something that no-one would ever expect, the largest free-trade capital in the charted world.
Architecture
What buidlings remain from the original Jeeta are strictly Kharathi in design, made from compacted sandstone, mud, and basic wooden support beams. When the cities population boomed, new designs of buildings began to creep in, with inspiration from all corners of the mortal kingdoms, resulting in a city that lacks any consistent architecture throughout.
