Ifrit's Company
Ifrit was hired by a company of dwarves to help them explore the ruins of
Kaverna Proklet under the forested city of
Timberfall. The dwarves were never allowed to enter the caverns because of the legendary curse, but a few dwarves decided that the treasures lost below would be worth the risk. Besides, dwarves too afraid of go underground? It didn't seem right to them.
Buck Java was the leader and the youngest member of the party. He was excited to explore.
Puget Stonecutter was confident that the rumor of the curse was to keep the common folk away from the treasure that must be hidden here. He wanted to get rich.
Ranier Hammerfist was just happy to be be along on the adventure and was excited to share in Buck's excitement.
Fremont Ironfoot was the sketpic. He was convinced that the rumors were true and went along to keep his friends from getting into too much trouble.
The cavern walls, ceilings and floors were constructed out of a strange metal alloy that none of the dawrves were familiar with. They encountered a door but couldn't figure out a way to get inside. They found more doors, each locked. Through the window, they could see rows of armor, or statues wearing armor, like terracotta warriors.
Ifrit detected that the doors were all magically controlled by a central area further down the halls. They continued to explore.
Some of the doors were open. They inspected a few terracotta warriors and cables that ran from the floors to the warriors.
In one of the rooms they discovered a skeleton of a dwarf. Then another. And another. One of the dwarf's ribcage was broken, shattered from the inside out.
At the end of the long hall, there were two unusal rooms, different than the others. The first held eight metal pods, the size and shape of sarcophagi, arranged in a circle around a central pillar. Each of the pods but one contained a sleeping dwarf, beards covered in frost. The last pod was open and broken. In the corner of the room stood a little girl dwarf, hiding and afraid. She hugged Ranier tight.
The final room was light with a magical glow. Ifrit, Buck and Fremont watched as a round metal orb emitted lighting bolts. Bits of metal and wire and loose terracotta armor were attracted to the lightning and coallesed together. After a few moments, the construction was complete and a metal warrior stood, eyes glowing yellow.
Fremont and Buck bolted, running back the way they came. But Ifrit stayed and watched the warrior, who interacted with a magical panel, activated a summoning circle and teleported a group of adventurers to his side.
The Heroes
"Latnum? We thought you were dead," they said.
"I am
Lat'num Leng," the metal man answered. He had died, but his spirit felt a calling to come back. His body was gone, disintegrated by the beholder, but
Zeitundraum built for him a new body. Somehow his spirit accepted the new body and they are one now. The Hexabeyance is within him.
Ifrit teleported into the room and demanded answers. The air was thick with tension but the tiefling explained about the dwarves and their exploration. They decided to check out the room with the sleeping pods while Latnum researched the facility on the computer.
