Infrastructure

Plumbing

All infrastructure of the Spire is built into or through the mountains to which it clings. Plumbing bores through the center of the rock, draining waste through man-made filtration deep in the earth. Fresh and reclaimed water is distributed by boiling and condensing in pipes up through the mountain. Rain water is also collected and used throughout the city.

Travel

There is one major arterial road winding around the mountainside. very small alleys allow access to most buildings. Some require stairs or even ladders to get into. Huge lifts allow goods, horse carts, livestock, and people to get up and down more quickly, - for a price, like a vertical toll road.

Districts

"District" is just about synonymous with "biome" in Underbelly.
Mining districts are in the center, inside the mountain. Yhe Mines are by far the most populous district. A huge number of resources are found here; stone for buildings, metals and precious gems, fuel, underground water sources, etc. the majority of which is taken Topside by train.
Indoor farms are also found underground, growing edible and medicinal mushrooms along with many other useful plants not requiring natural light to grow.
The fishing district is at the edge of the world, the "ocean" makes up roughly a quarter of Underbelly's total surface area.
Jungles butt up against the ocean, provding many medicinal plants and exotic animals for trading with (sending to) Topside. The Jungles are the "richest" of Underbelly's districts.
Jungles give way to rolling plains, where less exotic animals are herded and basic grains grown for leather and fur. These goods are used by Topside and Underbelly in roughly equal amounts.
