Jotnar Giants (of Jotunheim)
The Jotnar are the Aesir’s longest rival. Their name translates directly to "devourers," a fitting name for these barbaric creatures. The fierce giants of Jotnarheim are just as harsh as their world. The land on Jotunheim is wild and untamed, with sprawling forests and towering mountains. Embracing the wildness of their world, the Jotnar have adapted to be the apex predators. They do not grow food, preferring to hunt and kill animals, and sometimes, people. However, no matter how much they eat the Jotnar will always remain hungry. The Devouring Worldsoul ensures that. When the Aesir first met the Jotnar, they maintained a shaky peace treaty, at least until the Jotnar learned how delicious another Worldsoul is. They learned that their own power enabled them to leech off of other Worldsouls and when they did so, their strength and size grew and their skin hardened like frost on the rocks of their mountain homes. Each worldsoul they drained left them with a craving for more, and their victim with a cold, lifeless husk of a body. The Old Aesir fought a long and bitter war to keep the Jotnar from travelling to the Aesir home world and devouring everything in sight. But now, the ancient portals the Aesir left behind have returned to life and the Jotnar, are eager tofeast on whatever may remain on the other side.
