Jotunheim (World of Giants)
Home of the Jotnar Giants; also called the Utans, Jotun, or Frost Giants. Most of the giants dwell in small isolated tribes, only coming together for war. However, a long and costly war with the Old Aesir forced many of the Jotnar to band together against this common foe and form a settlement in the forest that has since grown into a fuedal-esque city called Utangard. This acheivement is monumentous for the Jotun species and as such, they refer to their homeworld using the same name.
Geography
Jotunheim is a wild and violent place. It is characterized by lush forests of giant sized trees, treacherous mountains, winding rivers, and deep caverns. Each of these biomes hosts a plentiful amount of wild game.
Ecosystem
The phrase, "eat or be eaten," is taken to new extremes on Jotunheim. With an ecosystem that is primarily filled with predators that hunt other predators, and difficult terrain, the planet is known to be an exceptionally difficult place to survive. The soil is particularly rich and fertile which allows copious amounts of wild vegetation to grow, especially due to the lack of organisms that survive on plant nutrients alone.
Ecosystem Cycles
Predator and prey relationships are in a constant state of change and upheaval with new micro adaptations being added and removed constantly.
Localized Phenomena
It is unclear whether this unique type of predator heavy ecosystem fuels the Devouring Worldsoul or, if it may be what fuels this insatiable hunger. But what is clear, is that this worldsoul grants the creatures of Jotunheim not only the ability to absorb other sources of arcane energy as sustenance, but an unquenchable thirst for it as well.
Climate
Primarily, the climate on Jotunheim remains predictably on the colder side, with extremely long winters. However the ragged mountains are prone to rapid and violent weather changes.
History
Jotunheim was one of the first worlds the Aesir encountered in their pursuit of other worldsouls. While the Energy Worldsoul cultivated growth, vibrance, movement, and life into the universe, the Devouring Worldsoul seemed to exist purely to consume those very same things. The polar opposite nature of the two worldsouls was mirrored in the relationship of the Jotnar and the Aesir, and this has served as a point of dissension for the two races ever since. Under the reign of Odin Allfather, the Aesir fought a long and bloody war against the Jotun that never seemed to fully resolve even after Odin gained direct control of the Jotunheim Worldsoul. The two remained in constant conflict until Ragnorok, when a war band of giants went through the Bi-Frost, and neither them or the Old Aesir were ever heard from again.
