The Underboss
Or The Successor
The Underboss is the second-in-command and more often than not The Boss's son. That's right, my friend! It's a family business!
Training...
Although The Underboss is the son he still needs to train and will train under his father and The Right-Hand Man until one, two, or both things happen. One, if he reaches the age of twenty-five without dying. Two, if he passes a series of tests carefully crafted by every member on the team, or if both happen. Although some teams want both to happen, it is ultimately up to The Boss to decide when to pass the reigns to his successor.Qualifications
First, you cannot really earn your way into being an Underboss, unless the successor is really, really not cut out for the job. Second, The Boss is not usually willing to replace his son. And third, the son usually does not want to be replaced.
So, if you want to be an Underboss without being born into the title. Good luck. I don't know anyone who has been able to do it before.
Responsibilities
This will vary from team to team, but the Underboss will help The Boss with much of the planning. He will help plan deals, small goals, and write contracts to help achieve the main goal. When The Underboss is "still in training" he will occassionally shadow The Right Hand Man to understand how deals are made, contracts are written, and how they are followed through.
A somewhat uncommon responsibility for the Underboss (when he is "still in training") is to recieve lessons from various people on the team. These lessons do not happen in every team, but sometimes in a larger one, where The Boss may be too busy to constantly do one-on-one lessons.
Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
This is very difficult to do, especially because the Boss's families are stereotypically very stubborn and pig-headed.
