Mechanics & Inner Workings

Aside from functiony in the normal capacity of being able to seal orders and letters it is also of Guild construction so that means potent magics have been laid within. In the last century of The Empire the Guild finally managed to make an enchantment to make an item never suffer from the passage of time. The Signet Ring has that magic upon it. It will also has the following magics upon, each requireing a specific phrase, knowledge of which has been passed down the family line.
Create a sphere of energy that will hold everything out, including air. Will only last for about 2 minutes. Sphere can be lowered earlyier and is locked in place when activated.
Will Open the Private vault that was located far underneath the Imperial Complex in Mor Daven. It's status is unknown
Makes the owner Immune to the affect of Shadowarmor.
Can send out a magical signal to ten specifically prepared stones that will lead the bearer's of those stones to the Signet. It will keep sending the signal till touched with one of the tracker stones.

History

The first Imperial Signet Ring was commissioned by Val the First upon assuming the Imperial Title. It was passed to his son upon death. When Val's granddaughter assumed the throne the original was begining to be vey worn. She commissioned a new one and had the oringinal melted down to provide some of the raw material, starting a tradition that would last for the entirety of The Empire. 29 times the Imperial Signet has been reforged. Each time the work was done by The Imperial Artisan's Guild.  The Signet Ring was believed to be lost whe Goval VI's fleet was struck and almost completely destroyed by a catastrophic storm. It did not. It survived as did Goval. He spent his years on the Island of Haven and the Signet and the secret of where it came from, has been passed down from parent to child.

Significance

By Imperial Law, only the true Holder of the Imperial Throne may possess and wield the Imperial Signet Ring as it is the Physical Embodiment of the Will of the Imperial Throne. The Holder of the Imperial Throne over the centuries took on an almost mythical if not divine status in The Empire. Many myths about them have existed over the millennia but one prevelent one is that if the Imperial Signet is ever found and one of the blood of Val possess it then the Empire will rise again
