Vance Alexander

Epistolary Vance Alexander

An Astartes Librarian of the Blood Angels, Vance Alexander was a childhood friend of Morgan Barik. The two were initiated and rose through the Chapter together, but events during the Third War for Armageddon drove them apart. Alexander now serves Inquisitor Danforth Laertes as part of Strikeforce Danforth.

History

Childhood and Early Career

Born on Baal, Alexander was recruited from the tribes of the Blood on Baal along with his friend Morgan Barik. The two of them were closer than brothers and remained so as they rose through the ranks of the Chapter together, but while Alexander's psychic gifts led him to the Librarium Barik's leadership and tactical acumen saw him promoted through the ranks of officers. Throughout their careers, they remained fast friends.   While developing the psychic disciplines common to Astartes and Blood Angel Librarians, Alexander also displayed a strong precognitive ability, often being assailed with visions and dreams. His commanders came to value the strategic value of his prophecies, but Alexander saw them as more than merely practical - he viewed them as messages from the ancient heroes of the Chapter, perhaps communion with Sanguinius and even the God-Emperor. Although a learned and even soft-spoken Astartes, he was a skilled warrior and leader, and - as an officer - was placed in command of selected missions.

The Sanguisbellum

In 986.M41, Alexander and his Marines responded to a request for aid in a compliance action from the Daughters of Verity. Fighting against Khornate cults that had seized a hive and were threatening the entire world, this action became known as as the Sanguisbellum (the blood war) and was of great significance to the Daughters as a whole and two individuals (Alicia Laertes and Shania) in particular. Isolated from the main body of the Imperial forces, Novice Alicia carried the geneseed of a slain Marine sergeant in her body for several hours in order to preserve it so it could be returned to the Chapter. Successful, Alexander bestowed the gift of the sergeant's Astartes power axe on Alicia as a token of honor and friendship between the Chapter and the Order.

Armageddon and Athanasius

Over a decade later, Alexander was assigned to the 9th Company of the Blood Angels, under his old friend Barik who had risen to the rank of Captain. In 998.M41 they were deployed to the hive-world of Armageddon as part of the defense of that world from the Orkish Waaagh! threatening it.
