Templars

The Templars are an order of paladins, clerics, monks, and many others that serve the Church of the Silver Flame. In modern times, the Templars operate as a humanitarian effort and outreach organization, but at one time they were an active, knightly order. Their official mission is "Bringing light and warmth to those in need".

Overview

The Templars of the Church of the Silver Flame are seen by many to be a group of well-doers who happened to be affiliated with the Church. Templars can be found in every major city and often sponsor relief efforts for the poor as well as offering some adventuring-type services for good causes. They are also known to still perform their ancient order duties in one location: the Pale Palace in Flamekeep, where they guard and protect church elders and the Keeper.

Prominent Members

  • Bright Ser Corbyn - Head of the Templars. Corbyn is a male goliath and the right-hand man of Bright Cardinal DeRoche
  • Ser Flayne Cooper - Head of Sharn Branch of the Templars. A female bugbear, many believe her assignment is one to fend off complaints of racism against goblinoids in the Church.
  • Ser Aldis Braithwaight - Head of the Templars in Rekkenmark. A male dark-elf. Made waves by also joining the Aurum and suggesting a possible merger between the two.

History

The church claims that the Templar Order was formed during the Lighted Crusade to fight the Archfiend and his horde. A group of paladins, clerics, monks, and bards came together to combat the growing wave of evil that was spreading across Khorvaire. From 229 YK to 832 YK, the Templars grew to exemplify the church throughout Khorvaire, sending their numbers to help put down uprisings and fight corruption and evil.

Crusade of Silver

During the Crusade of Silver, the Templars led the fight against lycanthropy. Their agents executed the orders of the church on the information provided by the Torchbearers. After the slaughter, there was an outcry against the church, but more specifically against the Templars. Keeper Eccles Sapprestine ordered that the Templars reorganize into their current form: a humanitarian organization instead of a religious militant one. Many believe that the Templars continue their militant deeds in secret to this day.
