Dark Jewel of the North
Operates massive generators to power the @Lightening Barriers and the electro-plasmic lights. Some wealthy citizens have private generators and lights, but most make do with candles and lanterns in their homes and shops. The smoke from the generators, lanterns, torches, chimneys, cook-fires and factories chokes the air and covers the city in ash. Because of the darkness a light source is need for daily life, most have hand held oil powered lanterns but the elite and wealthy may have the most advanced Electro-plasmic miniature technology, clipped to their belts or mounted on their hats, or carried by a servant.
Areas of illicit dealing have no lamp policy so business can be conducted in anonymous darkness.

Government
Law and Order is presided over by six institutions. The Lord Governor, The City Council, The Ministry of Preservation, The Magistrates, The City Watch, The Inspectors.
Under this system a normal citizen can expect to receive justice on par with their social standing and wealth.
The inspectors alone are famously incorruptible and hold themselves apart from the normal network of bribery and corruption.
Other organisations are paid for by the powers that be and rarely bite the hand which feeds them.
The Blue Coats are under general orders to uphold the law, however are essentially operating as a street gang in certain areas of the city.
Its said everyone is guilty in Duskwall get rich quick before you get caught.
Defences
Lighting Barriers surrounding the the city, to keep out the roving spirits of the Deathlands. There is military stationed and Bluecoats are stationed.
Industry & Trade
The most important industry is the Leviathan hunter fleet.
Infrastructure
The is a city of survivors. The city is densely packed, with buildings piled on top of each other. Looming towers, sprawling mansions, stacked row houses, everything is dissected by canals and narrow twisting alleys, connected by spiderwebs of roads, bridges and elivated walkways.
Assets
Major port where the Steam Fleet of Leviathan Hunter Ships are launched. The hunters go to the far North hunting ground in the void sea, the grapple with the huge leviathans to get their precious immortal blood.

History
The City was established over 1000 years ago as a coal mining settlement on the cold North Coast of Akoros. It has seen the breaking of the world, an attack by a titanic leviathan, massive fires, plague, civil war and legions of angry ghosts.
