Town of Thôn
A small town founded by Darkling Giants years after the Iron War (mostly refugees moving north from the town of Iorthon. Tucked into the mountains amongst the pines in Belltop, just east of the Svartalfheim border at the base of Mount Tinnuben at the edge of Frostwood Forest, this town is the last stop for travelers between the kingdoms, mostly hunters ranging from the blighted western elven lands.
Because game is so plentiful in these parts, there is an ample amount of meat and fur and bones to feed the town, and trade with the capitol for other supplies. Emeralds are also found in abundance in these mountains, where warm vents from deep under the earth also form some magical forest hot springs.
Because coin from trade and food from the land are surprisingly plentiful for such a seemingly inhospitible land here, this town is run communally. None accumulate wealth, but food at the stew kitchen is free for all, each person in town, resident or otherwise, is granted 1 gallon of Furhiją daily, a pine needle spirit distilled here.
This communal economy here has not always been so, Thôn used to be much harder and more individualistic, and wealth was hoarded amongst those with the strength to do so. That all changed with Ealdarthor Greeneave in 1456 when he was elected as governor after the residents killed the last governor. He decided the resources of this remote town, while not wide in variety, were plentiful to trade for everything they needed if they all worked together.
And it became so in Thon, with Ealdarthor's grandson, Eadric Greeneave, keeping his ancestor's traditions thriving to this day.
It is said that the reason the natural resources are so plentiful here is by the blessing of the lady of the mountain of Mount Tinnuben. Every year on the first day of the year that The Gold Spark rising in the sky refracts through the top of the mountain and shines a shimmering crystalline glow over the town, the town believes the lady of the mountain is requesting an offering, and they offer it that day at sunset. They simply call it Offering Day.
They leave substantial offerings of beauty as a yearly ritual in the tunnel into the mountain, including one beautiful young person from town. It is believed the offering is taken in by the lady of the mountain, and given eternal life so they may ascend to a higher plane. It is the greatest honor one can receive here, and many family members of the town have been previous offerings. All involved were overjoyed.
