Legend of the Black Eyed King
Also called the legend of the first Necromancer or the first Nekkai.
The legend is told different ways in different places. The Jarsokkan and Hrasnian stories call it the Black Eyed King. The Westrin legends call it the first Nekkai. And Hrakken tales tell of the first necromancer.
Summary
Here follows the three major versions of the tale. Notes are privided in parentheses to explain context.
Jarsokkan/Hrasnian Account
"In days of old, when our kings were many and our wars many more, a stranger came to our lands. He called himself Nekkai and his eyes were night, his skin like falling snow. He knew no foe for he would not fall to sword, or spell, or bow. By day he stayed away, but by night all would cry whilst he bled them dry. In time the Kings of River claimed they would not quiver and said for peace they'd try. In village Attet they set a a quest for Nekkai that he could not deny. To go west to rest the foe and nest down the Flow, to put the foe below. 'To die to die' said Nekkai, 'you would have me die'. As they could not slay him, they then obeyed him, giving him no lie. In the end he did defend this land of rivers and tree, although not without a fee. With his Wisdom the dead were risen from their prison and marched for you and I." Other similar songs, poems, and tales of a man called Nekkai can be found in the area, although they are deemed dubious as historical records by most Hrakken Arcanists. Some of these sources call him a Necromaner, while others go so far as to call him a monster. What is clear is that he is said to have commited atrocious acts relating to blood. Every source also mentions his black eyes and pale skin. One even claims that all Hrakkens with black eyes are decendants of Nekkai. What is known about this period is that a mysterious black eyed man took control of the Hrakken territory and fought with the nations to the west. If records of time are to be believed, he ruled for nearly 100 years before being slain by a warrior Priest from the lands now known as Lokain.
Westrin Account
The legends of the Nekkai found in Westrin culture make no mention of any kings or Hrakka at all. They speak of some kind of being, spirit, or demon of the night that terrorized villagea, killing men by draining their blood. In some legends there are many Nekkai while in others tgere is only one. Most if these tales the Nekkai has strange powers like control over animals or invisibility. It is said that the priests of the early Church of the Trinity drove the Nekkai all the way to the northern mountains, however some sources seem to say that the Nekkai was slain.Hrakken Account
Following is a written record of a song or poemabout the event from an old Hrakken historical epic found in the library of Koh's School of the Dark Arts."In days of old, when our kings were many and our wars many more, a stranger came to our lands. He called himself Nekkai and his eyes were night, his skin like falling snow. He knew no foe for he would not fall to sword, or spell, or bow.
