Tree of the Ancients
The Tree of the Ancients is a massive tree at the centre of a forested island in the Feywild.
Purpose / Function
The Tree of the Ancients stands as a meeting place for the Tabaxi Matron Druids to meet and a place to bury their dead. Any creature buried in its roots can choose to create a spiritual avatar and interact with people at the site before passing on to their next life.
When a Tabaxi dies, a Matron Druid will take the body to the Tree of the Ancients to bury them within the roots in order to give them a chance to reflect on the memories and stories they had gathered throughout their life and to pass them on to the Last of the First so it can be carved into the Tree. After this, the souls of the Tabaxi might linger for a time before returning to the magical soup of the Silver Sea and being reborn into a new being.
Architecture
The Tree of the Ancients was grown by the First Ones as a home and a tether from the Feywild to the natural plane. It has many rooms and corridors throughout its massive trunk linked by stairways and ramps. The Druids have grown tree houses on the boughs of the mighty tree, which can be accessed through the network of halls within the tree.
History
Long ago, the First Ones, a group of immensely powerful Tabaxi Druids grew the Tree of the Ancients to house their people and serve as a tether for their adventures into the material world. As the power of the First Ones waned, they appointed Paladins to guard the tree in their stead. These Paladins are called the Last of the First and their order still guards the tree to this day. The first of these Paladins was named Séntana. He defeated a powerful fey creature that was bent on destroying the Tree. From its bones he crafted Gáe Bulg.
