Session #4: Fiery Rise
General Summary
The adventurers awake the next day, ready to inquire about the greatsword, but they are brought to a rude awakening. A fireball exploded outside of the mansion, causing disarray for the group as they attempted to investigate what happened. As they ran outside they saw a number of dead bodies and heard people screaming while hearing the clanking of metal as guards approached. Upon the rooftops ran weird creatures mounted upon by the poxguard.
Alex returned to this situation after dealing with a sad death. They had to go outside of town where they found a family consisting of a father, his sister, and his daughter. The daughter had suffered an accident and had her leg amputated and infected. She was guaranteed death, so Alex tried their hardest to help, but in the end, did not succeed in bringing the youth to a peaceful rest.
As the adventurers investigated the situation they found out that some kind of construct caused a fiery explosion by throwing a ball from a necklace and that a man managed to limp off after taking something from one of the dead bodies. In order to investigate the lead of a construct, the party ventured off to a temple of Gond, a god of craftsmanship, to learn of the construct. There they met Valetta, a dragonborn priest who led them to the attic where they met Nim, a nimblewright which is a Lantanese invention recently brought to the empire. Nim explained through sign language that he created a fellow nimblewright, the one who committed the crime, and after taking away all of Nim's things, Valetta gives the party a way to locate the nimblewright. She offers them five-hundred gold and an invention for destroying the nimblewright.
The party decides to designate certain wards for different days of investigation into the matter, but after the first day of investigation, they detect a nimblewright in Gralhund Villa in the north ward. After scoping out the house they decide to wait before venturing in. They ask Renard for information on the Villa since he knows a lot of things, and he reveals that he is the son to who was once a member of the Court of Wellness, and that the gnome that was killed in the blast was a member of the Diseased who followed him, and Renard believes he was planning on hiring the party in hopes that they would deliver a magical artifact, the Stone of Golorr to Renard's father. He asks the party to allow him a day to investigate the matter, and they do so.
The party returns the following day to learn that the man who wandered off was a notorious member of the Black Network, Urstul Floxin, and he entered Gralhund Villa during the incident of the firey blast. Renard offers to help the party by distracting the guards while they break into Gralhund Villa, and they decide to hatch their plan to do so that night.
Eventually, at the peak of darkness, the party snuck into the Villa where they were assailed by creatures made of pure shadow, who, as they killed them, turned into two dogs and a man. After killing them, the party entered the manor. They took out the detection device of the Nimblewright only to learn that the nimblewright was quickly leaving the grounds. The party immediately left the villa and returned home after the nimblewright's superior speed allowed it to escape the radius of the detector.
The next day, the party returned to the scene where they were arrested for breaking into the villa. They were charged with that as well as the murder of the groundskeeper of the house. This costed them about 1250 gold in fines and a month of labor each. They are also told that the Gralhund family was held hostage by Zhents before Lord Gralhund led a revolt. The nimblewright was apparently a Zhentarim spy that stole
Lady Gralhund's necklace of fireballs, and Urstul Floxin managed to escape during the revolt.
Luthrin later dealt with the issue of the Zhentarim by visiting Yagra Stonefist in the Yawning Portal who told him that the Gralhunds were liars who turned back on their deal. She gives Luthrin the info on a new contact before he leaves.
His contact, Davil Starsong was arrested for his connection with the Zhentarim, so Luthrin meets with a new contact, Istrid Horn, a loan shark who asks to lay low in Trollskull Manor waiting for the heat of a Zhentarim hostage situation of Gralhund Villa to die down in exchange for a total of 50 platinum pieces. Luthrin graciously accepts.
Finally, the party hunts for the nimblewright while Alex, goes to perform a quick needed amount of the labor required of them for the issues caused. They find the nimblewright in an alley of the dock ward and begin to plan what they are going to do about it.
