Thieves' Guild

The Thieves' Guild is probably the oldest guild in Awsranka, no one is really sure. There is a loose national affiliation, but most chapters operate independantly from each other and are very wary and territorial. Really it's just a traditional form of organized crime. However, most civial authorities in Awsranka accept the existance of the guild as a lesser evil. In cases of "bad actors" from out of town, the guild has been known to cooperate with authorties to get rid of the "disruptions." Business is paramount, and random killings or suchlike is bad for business.

Recently in Awsranka a new practice of the thieves' guild is spreading; selling dungbeetles (trans from the minaoian "asfalisi") to local businesses and individuals. Buying a dungbeetle allows the individual or business certain rights when interacting with a guild member.

  1. a reciept upon the conclusion of a transaction, recieved in person, or left in an obvious location
  2. reimbursment for financial loss; subject to conditions and limits negotiated during the purchase of the dungbeetle

Dungbeetle sales have actually increased the revenues and membership of the guild. In the general population, they are regarded as a lesser evil, providing a sence of stability, at lest for those who can afford it.
