Chapter II: Ambush on the Road
General Summary
Theolin and Eisenheim start their journey with the three merchants; Orolo-a silk dealer from the Republic of Lumene', the two Celinadians Thim and his son, Luca-sellers of various textiles. After two days on the road, the small caravan are attacked by a four Orc marauders. Eisenheim summons his eidolon for the first time; a serpentine like creature from one of the outer realms. The orcs are routed, but not before Thim is struck by an orc arrow to his chest gravely wounding him. Eisenheim and his eidolon clear the King's Highway of the fallen tree blocking their way, while Theolin ignored his own wound and helps Orolo stabilize the wounded merchant. With haste they make their way to the farming village of Fairhill to get Thim aid.
Arriving upon Fairhill, the caravan are stopped by a group of the armed men identifying themselves as the guard of Fairhill, led by a man named Baran and followed closely by Lieutenant of the Fairhill Guard Lauriel. They question Eisenheim about their identity and business in Fairhill. He tells Baran they are mercenaries hired on as caravan guards, and that the one of their own was wounded needed life saving assistance. Baran directs them to the temple of Freya and its attending priestess, Shandrill.
Shandrill utters a prayer of healing to her goddess, Freya-which Eisenheim gathers is a deity from the northern wastes of Brondheim. Shandrill bids the caravan take up residence at the Drunken Cockatrice, an inn of well reknown in Fairhill. Inside over dinner and drinks, the two meet a Zylistanni man who indentifies himself as Hazim, a traveler from the Sultanate of Zylistan, the purpose of his wanderings left very vaugue.
After the two caravan guards finish their meal and their ale and wine, the sound of the town bell rings throughout the taproom of the Cockatrice. Theolin and Eisenheim grab their weapons and venture outside and spy immediately the temple devoted to Freya is ablaze.Character(s) interacted with
- Baran-Captain of The Fairhill guard. A grizzled, seasoned warrior with a gruff demeanor who is also missing his left hand.
- Hazim- A one-eyed swarthy man from Zylistan. A curious patron of the Drunken Cockatrice.
- Glarian- Cheerful and jolly proprietor of the Drunken Cockatrice. Her cooking is widely known throughout the central region of the Kingdom of Galador.
