Apt. 12b Nova Aurora
From her birth in 2237 until the Io Moonquake in 2240, Aya lived in apt. 12b in the Nova Aurora tower.
Apartment 12b was a standard 'family-size' home with a master bedroom and two box rooms, two bathrooms, and a main living area with a food preparation area, dining area, and living area.
The home was a model home for a model city and provided a comfortable, light, and airy living space to showcase the best of the lifestyle available within the Jovian Alliance.
Purpose / Function
The purpose of Nova Aurora tower was to showcase the advanced skills of Jovian builders and architects and to act as a model home to attract new workers to Io and to the Jovian Alliance.
Design
The apartment was a standard 'family-size' home with a master bedroom and two box rooms, two bathrooms, and a main living area with a food preparation area, dining area, and living area.
Entries
The Nova Aurora had several entrances, including a main entrance on the ground floor and a fire escape with escape pods on the upper floors. The building was also equipped with security cameras and drone guards.
Apartment 12b had the main entrance, a balcony, and several windows. However, being on the 12th floor meant that descending was not an option.
Sensory & Appearance
The apartment had to be air-conditioned, keeping the temperature at a cool 22 degrees, with the windows opening to allow in the air of New Atlantis. The walls were painted white, and the floors were covered in a soft grey linoleum with modern wipe-clean 'rugs'. During the day, there was a soft blue and during the evening there was a warmer orange.
The apartment was on the 12th floor and had a view of the cityscape and, on a clear day, Tvashtar Patera.
Astrid Turner enjoyed hydroponics, and the apartment was filled with the smells of fresh herbs and salad vegetables.
Denizens
The apartment was home to Astrid Turner and James Turner their son, Luke Turner, daughter Aya Turner, her robot Max.
Contents & Furnishings
The apartment was furnished with modern furniture, including a sofa, chairs, a coffee table, and a dining table and chairs. The walls were decorated with art and photographs, and the floors were covered with rugs. There was a holovid, a wall-mounted computer, and an automated cleaning system.
Valuables
The apartment contained Aya's parents' valuables, including jewellery and wearable tech. There were also several cleaning drones and Aya's Nanny Bot, MAX.
Alterations
The Nova Aurora was extensively damaged in the Io Moonquake of 2240 and has not been repaired since. The building is now a ruin, with many of the walls and floors collapsed.
Architecture
The Nova Aurora was designed in the New Brutalist Jovian style of architecture, which is characterised by its use of reinforced concrete and steel, and its ornate decoration.
Each apartment had the latest innovations in home comforts, including air conditioning, heating, and a private balcony, as well as the latest home technology including a holovid, wall-mounted computer and an automated cleaning system, and Daylite's to drench the interior in natural light.
Defenses
The tower was built with several defences, including reinforced walls, security cameras, Fire Escape Pods and drone guards.
Each apartment required an entry key and contained an alarm system.
History
The "Nova Aurora" was one of the first buildings to be constructed on New Atlantis, and was designed by the same architect who designed the city of New Atlantis and. The Tower was designed to be the tallest building in New Atlantis.
Tourism
The ruins of New Atlantis and Nova Aurora are frequented by 'Urban Explorers' and videos of their expeditions into the dangerous ruins litter their social feeds. Several 'explorers' have gone missing within the ruins, while many distress calls go unheeded.
The local security has made it clear that they will not expend resources to aid those who trespass in the dangerous and forbidden city. However, this warning has only served to ensure the ruined city is all the more alluring.
