Kamena
Kamena is a burned out planet, orbiting dangerously close to a red giant star. The planet maintains a geosynchronous orbit around the red giant.
A unique aspect of orbiting a red giant star as close as this planet is that it looks like the sun is about to rise in whichever direction one wants to look.
Charred and scattered remnants of a precursor society can be found at several sites across the ravaged landscape.
Geography
The side of the planet facing the red giant star has several rivers of molten rock.
The dark side of the planet is moderately more hospitable. It's terrain varies from scared plains to craggy canyons.
Ecosystem
The planet is hot, oppressively hot, and that is just the dark side of the planet. Somehow the planet does maintain a trace atmosphere that is capable of sustaining human occupation.
Localized Phenomena
The planet is prone to unusual and dangerous magnetic flare-ups that interfere with technological devices and hamper communications. These flair-ups happen sporadically and develop suddenly, and with little warning.
Fauna & Flora
There are present on Kamena, some mechanoid devices that imitate the function of both flora and fauna. These objects have not been examined or catalogued at this time.
Natural Resources
Little of value is left on this planet outside of the vague possibility of precursor artifacts left in the rubble of this devastated planet.
History
At some point in the distant past, several score millennia ago, there was a civilization on this world. All that remains are scattered fragments buried in the sands of this barren world.
More recently, the amateur exo-archaeologist Erin Okerstrom as been conducting an excavation of a precursor site.
