Heorteblostma

The Heart-Flower

Heorteblostma is the goddess of life, birth, and prophecy, and in some place of the world she is also regarded as a nature goddess. She is often characterized as the twin sister of Heortescrín , the god of death. Traditionally, Heorteblostma is depicted as a woman made of wood, wearing a robe of lichen and grasses with a hood of blooming flowers.   Shrines dedicated to Heorteblostma are often located overlooking meadows of flowers or at the entrances to public gardens. Her shrines are carved into the trunks of trees, acting as a sort of pillar in a hollowed out section of the trunk. The statue is made in her traditional depiction with the statues clothing being made out of plants native to the locale. A ring of flowers tied into a long line is wrapped around the trunk of the tree, above and below the hollowed out space for the statue.

Divine Domains

Life

Heorteblostma is also referred to as the Lifegiver. Her Life aspect is often further associated with nature, hence why her depictions often evoke imagery of flowers and other plants. The Lifegiver said to have created and given life to the human race, as so most human community often have a shrine or temple dedicated to her. Other races worship her more as a nature and prophetic goddess rather than a creator of life. To Heorteblostma, all life is sacred, and hence her followers often practice more pacified lives over energetic and aggressive ones. She is also a nurturer of community, as so some regard cities, a congregation of large numbers of people, of living beings, as the result of the Lifegiver's guiding hand. No one should be secluded for their entire lives, and the goddess wants all her children to value themselves and each other, and, above all, to respect life and not treat it lightly.

Birth

The goddess is often characterized as a mother figure, hence why art of her traditionally depicts her as pregnant. As one of the mythology creators of the human race, she is worshiped as the mother of humanity, and of plants and animals. It is said that the Flowery Mother and the Cunning Mother worked together during the creation of the world, with the Cunning Mother creating the animals while Heorteblostma made the plants that can be found in the world. Heorteblostma regards the nurturing of children to be one of the most sacred and important tasks of any living being, hence members of her clergies often act as wet-nurses.

Prophecy

In many societies, people believe in fate, and Heorteblostma is one of the goddess associated with prophecy. It is said that the goddess weaves the fate of a person when they are born, and that she knows what that person's life will be like from birth for she herself weaves that long tale. Seers and diviners often invoke one of the names of Heorteblostma in their incantations to prophesize the future. She is said to tell her brother, Heortescrín, when a person is fated to die so that he may be prepared to collect a person's soul at the time of their death and enter into the great cycle of rebirth. She weaves fate onto a grand tapestry, which has given rise to the tradition of sewing a tapestry depicting the history of one's family over the generations.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

Tenets of Faith

Life is sacred. Hold life dear to your heart, and shed not its blood.   Nurture life's seed. Help other to continue living and nurture life whenever possible.   Entrust oneself to fate. All of fate has been weaved, do not escape it for all that happens is for the best.

Holidays

While Heorteblostma does not have a specific holiday in her honor, many consider birthdays to be a pseudo-holiday to the Lifegiver. In many places, birthdays often start with a prayer to the goddess before the festivities are to start.
