Eyes of Akadi

The Eyes of Akadi are two magnificent gemstone housed within the Salt Lake Temple of Akadi. The theft of one in 1488 by Artus Goldfinch, and the retaliatory drought inflicted by the Eyes former head guardian, Akadi’s Wrath, contributed significantly to the outbreak of the Siege of Salt Lake peasant rebellion.

Design

The Eyes themselves rest in a twelve foot tall statue of a woman, presumed to be on depiction of Akadi. They Eyes constantly glow and the inside of the gems are in a constant state of flux, as the gems appear to contain a storm itself.

History

The Eyes of Akadi were created an untold millennia ago. During the ancient era, numerous temples to the elemental gods were established all across Faerun. One such temple was created outside the modern settlement of Salt Lake, and was guarded by the elemental myrmidon Akadi’s Mercy.   In 1488, one of the Eyes of Akadi was stolen by Artus Goldfinch, the Baron of Salt Lake. The temple guardian, now named Akadi’s Wrath, inflicted a terrible drought upon Salt Lake. Artus, to hide his crime, hid the Eye inside a secret room in the Goldfinch Manor.   In 1492, the Breadwinners rediscovered the Eye during their attempt to mediate the Siege of Salt Lake. They returned it to its proper place in the Salt Lake Temple of Akadi after defeating Akadi’s Wrath, who was bent on punishing all comers. The Eyes rest in the Salt Lake Temple of Akadi to this day.

Significance

The Salt Lake Temple of Akadi's primary purpose is to guard and display the Eyes of Akadi, the gemtstones representative of the power and beauty in Akadi's storms. For worshippers of Akadi, the Eyes are treated as tantamount to holy relics and were supposedly created by the primordial goddess herself eons ago.
