Joakim Ferox is the former lord of
Focosgost that was
deposed by
Hargrave Decker in 1493
. He is also the father of
Krisella Ferox, the leader of the
Free Focos Movement and Decker's greatest political rival.
History
Joakim Ferox was elected by the
Focos Council of Guilds to be the city's lord in the 1460s. His reign, which focused on the well-being of Gostians and a tendency towards isolationist policies, was recieved postively by the people of Focosgost, and Lord Ferox was a beloved figure. Joakim also took pains to raise his daughter Krisella with a well-rounded education, knowing that she would not inherit his title. Joakim's reputation for generosity also led to a
abandoned baby being left at the lord's front door. Knowing his chef, Nicolas Arrzen, had been wanting to raise a child, the young boy was turned over to Nicolas, who named him
Necian and raised him.
During the
Great Dragon War, Lord Ferox decided to remain neutral in the conflict, as the
cult of the Dragon had yet to attack Focosgost. While accepted in the city, this decisoin was derided by the cities fighting in the war, particularly the member-states of the
Lords' Alliance.
After the war in 1493,
Hargrave Decker, a Gostian that fought under
Neverwinter in the Great Dragon War, argued that his victories during the war had earned him more merit that Joakim and that he should be made lord in Joakim's stead. His claim was widely mocked in Focos, as the lords of Focosgost serve for life, but Decker intedned on taking the throne by force. With a mercenary army, backed by Neverwinter, Decker besieged Focosgost, ultimately breaking through its walls and deposing Joakim Ferox.
During the final day of the coup, Joakim sent Krisella away, afraid for his daughter's safety. She fled to
Waterdeep, where she attempted to to rally support to condemn Hargrave Decker and Neverwinter, but the spirit of unity from fighting the cult of the Dragon together was still high, and Focosgost's neutrality in the war did it no favors. Meanwhile, Joakim was allowed to remain in the city but only under permenant house arrest.
Since the coup, Joakim had grown diminutive and withdrawn, his age rapidly catching up to him.
