Free Focos Movement
The Free Focos Movement is a political organization in Focosgost formed to oust Lord Hargrave Decker and break the enmeshment between Focosgost and Neverwinter. While originally a decentralized movement, it has recently been turned into a legitimate political faction led by Krisella Ferox.
Public Agenda
Created as a backlash to the 1493 Decker Coup, the ultimate end goal of the Free Focos Movement is a return to Focosgost's traditional, meritocratically elected monarchy and a severing of the ties between the city and Neverwinter, which backed the Decker Coup and has been pulling Focosgost ever more into its orbit.
History
Following the 1493 Decker Coup, disaffected Gostians began quietly and loudly protesting their new lord. Disparate and unorganized, these various groups eventually latched on to "Free Focos" as their rallying cry. Protests, graffitti, and assemblies were common in the first few years of Lord Decker's reign, and a few were stopped by force.
However, some of the leadership of the Free Focos Movement had fallen under the controlled of the aboleth S'gothgah. This control allowed S'gothgah to slowly ramp up the calls for violence and escalation, which came to a head during the Banesmark Crisis, where violent clashes between the Free Focos Movement and the guard of Focos threatened to tear the city apart. Compounding this was S'gothgah's use of the Twilight Monastery, which committed a few false flag attacks waving the banner of the Free Focos Movement, such as the Attack on the Neverwinter Gala, which nearly killed Lord Decker, leading to an escalation of crackdowns.
S'gothgah's defeat and retreat after the Attack on the Neverwinter Gala at the tail-end of 1496 ended his control over the Free Focos Movement, and the return of Krisella Ferox, the daughter of deposed lord Joakim Ferox, in 1497 furhter reduced tensions. Lady Ferox, herself falsely implicated at the ringleader of the Attack on the Neverwinter Gala, took great steps to oust and disavow the most violent members of the movement, thanks to her knowledge of the Banesmark, and worked to organize the Free Focos Movement into a genuine political entity, led by herself.
Lady Ferox's efforts paid off, and the Free Focos Movement began turning its focus towards the halls of government proper. Krisella Ferox was voted to represent the Guild of Street Laborers in the Council of Guilds, giving her the political power to advance the goals of the movement.
The movement was again strengthened in 1408 with the return of another Gostian to the city, Necian Arrzen, a long-time friend of Lady Ferox and one of the Heroes of Saltmarsh. Necian would eventually rise to represent the Baker's Guild in the city council, acting as one of Krisella's closest allies.
