Lysara Solloway

Lysara Solloway (a.k.a. Lysara the Grin)

Lysara Solloway, also known as her former criminal alias Lysara the Grin, is the wife of former Baldur's Gate Watch Oversar Maxwell Solloway and the former head of Baldur's Gate's underworld.

History

Lysara was born in 1441 in the Lower City of Baldur's Gate. In 1461, Lysara met the young watchman Maxwell Solloway, and the two instantly fell in love. They married four years later in 1465.   In 1470, Lysara gave birth to her only child, a boy, named Max after his father. While Maxwell worked, Lysara stayed home and doted on her child.   During the Bhaalspawn Crisis of 1482, Lysara witnessed the death of her child during the destruction of the Lower City. Overcome with grief, she was approached by the ghost of the infamous serial killer Jack of Smiles, who offered to erase her pain by possessing her. Lysara accepted and vanished. For years she was presumed dead.   In actuality, Lysara, now controlled by Jack of Smiles, began a hostile takeover of Baldur's Gate's underground, putting herself at its head. Lysara became infamous for forcing her closest officers to cut out their tongues so they couldn't reveal her secrets. She also was fond of sending messages to enemies by cutting their cheeks open to "widen" their smile. She established her headquarters underneath The Last Laugh.   By 1491, the Order of the Gauntlet had caught wind that Lysara might be possessed and sent Eilidh Stormheart to investigate. Lysara, worried about her secret coming out, sent assassins after Eilidh, but the plot was stopped by Ulder Ravengard's agent Zephyr and the Breadwinners Mariana Goldfinch, Legolass Darkblade, and Malachor Wolfsbane, who faked Eilidh's death.   On the 12th of Uktar, the Breadwinners, the Watch, and the Flaming Fist launched a joint raid on The Last Laugh. Zephyr and the Breadwinners, now joined by Eilidh, fought their way to Lysara, where they beat her and exercised Jack of Smiles.   Lysara was returned to her husband, where she was in a near catatonic state following her decade long possession. Following the Baldur's Gate Uprising a few days later, Maxwell Solloway retired from the Watch and took Lysara with him to the country to heal.
