Salt Lake Council

The Salt Lake Council is an advisory body to the Baron of Salt Lake. It was founded as part of the compromise that ended the Siege of Salt Lake.

Structure

The Salt Lake Council was comprised of various members of the community, voted on by their peers. At the head of the council is Salt Lake's Baron, who has to cooperate with the council on various matters of governance related to the town itself.

History

The Siege of Salt Lake was a military conflict between the peasants of Salt Lake and greater Amphail and the army of Amphail. Though the origins of the siege  lie directly with Baron Artus Goldfinch inadvertently causing a four-year drought, the roots of the conflict go back even deeper. Harvest, the leader of the Plowshare Militia, demanded a Salt Lake not ruled by nobility but the people that worked the land, and these sorts of sentiments had been simmering for years.   On the 7th of Tarsakh, 1491, the Breadwinners managed to secure a peace treaty between the peasantry and nobility. The deal stated peasants not from Salt Lake had to return to their own lands and Artus Goldfinch would be stripped of his title as baron. The people of Salt Lake would then be given a council to work alongside, but not supplant, the town's new baron, Mariana Goldfinch.   The council was officially formed on the 30th of Tarsakh, with Gabriel Goldfinch at its head, acting as regent for his cousin, Mariana.
