Traditionalists

Traditionalists are an unofficial political faction in Saltmarsh that advocate for maintaining the town's traditional, self-reliant way of life. They are opposed by Emberists, who advocate for closer political and economic ties with the Neverwinter.

Structure

The Traditionalists are not a unified group, and as such there is no designated leader.   Traditionalist Marshers are generally split between the town's fishermen and mariners, who see their way of life being encroached upon by Neverwinter, and the town's smugglers, who worry that even more Neveren presence would result in the end of their "trade."   During the Banesmark Crisis of 1496, the leading Traditionalist voices were Eda Oweland, the head of the Saltmarsh Town Council and representative of the fishermen, Gellan Primewater, another member of the council and the financier of the town's smugglers, and Anders Solmor, who, under the mind control of the aboleth S'gothgah, advocated for violent action to be taken against the Neveren garrison.

History

During the Banesmark Crisis, Traditionalists were generally split between peaceful negotiators and those who wanted to take violent action against Neverwinter. The council member Anders Solmor, influenced by a Banesmark, advocated for expelling the Neverwinter Guard and was arrested on the 21st of Elient by the B-Team adventurers for conspiring with forces that resulted in Marsher deaths.   However, Anders was freed a few months later by a nearly violent crowd that demanded he be put under house arrest instead, and he continued advocating for violence before he and other memebers of town were forcibly detained after the Heroes of Saltmarsh convinced the populace that the Banesmark was a dangerous Shadowfell parasite.
