B-Team
The B-Team, short for the Beer Team, was a group of drinking buddies and part-time adventurers that was active during the Banesmark Crisis in Saltmarsh. Though the individual members met only by happenstance, they became good friends over the course of the crisis and remained good friends in the years after.
Structure
There were five core members of the B-Team:
- Seraphina Pierce, a half-elf wizard and the younger sister of the Heroes of Saltmarsh Micah Pierce
- Ardek Oredelver, a dwarven barbarian and writer and the younger brother of the Hero of Saltmarsh Mogran Oredelver
- Raven Bloodash, a Shadar-kai oathbreaker paladin formerly in service to the Raven Queen
- Immortal Valentine, a tiefling ranger
- Oceanus, a triton warrior and one of the Heroes of Saltmarsh
Culture
Though they came to town for various reasons, each of the B-Team members were united in their desire to go drinking at the Snapping Lure in their free time, making it an evening ritual.
Though Oceanus spent most of his time with the Heroes of Saltmarsh, he also joined the B-Team when he had time, making him an honorary member.
History
Seraphina, Raven, and Valentine arrived in Saltmarsh on the 21st of Elient while most of the guards of the town, the Mariner militia and the Neverwinter Guard, had departed to fight in the Battle of the Spire. While gone, the Banesmarked member of the Saltmarsh Town Council Anders Solmor took advantage of the Neveren Guard's absence by calling for the Marshers left in town to rise up and throw out any traces of Neverwinter. Riling up fears further were attacks on Marshers at night secretly undertaken by the shadow monk Bo Latarn.
Though unaware of the Banesmark or the greater threat the town was facing, Sera, Valentine, and Raven were able to track down Bo Latarn, wounding him and forcing him to retreat to Anders' mansion, where the group found and captured the two of them. Anders was jailed, Bo Latarn was hung, and the B-Team was recognized for their help.
While Raven and Immortal had just traveled to Saltmarsh for travel, Sera had made her way to town due to suspicions about her older brother Micah's affairs. When Micah returned from the Battle of the Spire, he was shocked by Sera's presence, but refused to get her involved in the greater Banesmark Crisis out of fear for her safety. Angered, Sera refused to leave until she had answers, and the B-Team unofficially formed as Sera, Valentine, and Raven became drinking buddies.
Over the next month, the B-Team expanded to included Ardek Oredelver, who moved to Saltmarsh in Marpenoth to be closer to his older brother Mogran and quickly hit it off with the others. They also gladly welcomed Oceanus, who entered the group through Sera, as Oceanus wanted to learn more about Micah from Sera, and Sera wanted to get a hint of what her brother was up to.
On the 1st of Uktar, the Mask, the individual who stole Micah and Sera's childhood home, returned to Saltmarsh to proposition the Heroes of Saltmarsh for a partnership, which resulted in Micah and fellow Hero Lyra attacking the Mask before they were stopped by Mogran. Oceanus, concerned, fetched Sera, who was distraught that Micah was still chasing the Mask and hadn't told her. The two got into an ugly spat, which resulted in Raven nearly fighting Micah in defense of her friend. When the Heroes chose to accept the Mask's deal, albeit with intent to kill him after, Oceanus stayed with the rest of the B-Team to comfort the upset Sera.
While the Heroes were gone, the B-Team was contacted by the Sunny Shore Tribe, who needed help after a few of their members were attacked while they were moving out of the Dunwater Den. The B-Team trekked into the Mere of Dead Men and uncovered a cult of Myrkul sacrificing lizardfolk, believing they were a "lesser" species. The B-Team stopped them and returned to town.
In Nightal of 1496, after the Heroes of Saltmarsh returned from Firewatch Island, the B-Team was told fully of the threat of the Banesmark, S'gothgah, and the threat to destroy Saltmarsh if it became clear that the Heroes were making further moves against him. To help, Immortal Valentine went with most of the Heroes of Saltmarsh to hunt the black dragon Voaraghammanthar, which was in possession of the God Trap, an item the Heroes believed could disrupt S'gothgah's plans. While they were gone, Necian Arrzen would stay behind and use magic to make it appear that the other Heroes hadn't left, by disguising Sera as Micah, Ardek as Mogran, and Raven as Lyra.
While the dragon hunting team left, the B-Team and Necian spent their time moving around town to determine how many Marshers had a Banesmark. During this investigation, the team unwittingly discovered the seal trapping the vampire Xolec, breaking it and freeing Xolec in the process, leaving him free to begin feeding after a century of imprisonment.
When the Heroes returned, the ten members of the Heroes and the B-Team were able to lure out Xolec by disguising Necian as Sindy Tidepusher, Xolec's romantic obsession, and easily dispatched him. The group then discovered Xolec's coffin near the town standing stones, staking him through the heart and sacrificing his soul to Micah's Patron.
The B-Team then supported the Heroes in their plan to convince the town that the Banesmark was actually a Shadowfell parasite by using the testimony of Raven, a Shadowfell native.
When the Heroes departed for the Styes to confront S'gothgah, the B-Team stayed behind to defend the town should anything happen.
Disbandment
Following the end of the Banesmark Crisis, the various members of the B-Team went their own way, though they stayed in contact.
Seraphina moved back to Waterdeep and Ardek returned with his brother to Neverwinter. Raven continued traveling Northwest Faerun, while Valentine, inspired by the flora of the nearby Mere of Dead Men, settled in Saltmarsh to open a homerun distillery. Oceanus also stayed in Saltmarsh, settling in with his boyfriend, and as of 1519 husband, Micah.
