Durnan

Owner and proprietor of The Yawning Portal, Durnan has a famed history as an adventurer before he settled down and founded the world famous tavern upon the crumbling ruins of Halaster Blackcloak's tower. It is said he made his fortune by delving into the Undermountain himself, along with his close lifelong friend Mirt.
A fairly gruff fellow, he nevertheless respects most of his patrons, acknowledging good spirit, and people who treat his staff well. He discourages less experienced adventurers from attempting to take on the challenge of the Undermountain, a curt word of warning sometimes the clearest hint that he likes you, otherwise he tends to limit his interactions to serving paying customers.
The yawning Portal is sometimes host to monsters from the Undermountain trying to climb out, and when the various drinking adventurers struggle to bring them down, Durnan himself is more than capable, wielding his greatsword, Grimvault.
