Captain America
A super-hero identity, originally created as a propaganda tool by the United States of America during World War II. The title was later reinvented by Steve Rogers into a symbol of the best of American values, rather than a representative of the U.S. Government. Because of the patriotic nature of the title, it has been a subject of controversy and political scheming at various points in its history.
The holder of the title has always been a member of the Avengers, and usually takes the role of field leader.
Traditionally the bearer of the title also wields Captain America's Shield.
