The title given to the current head of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Requirements

Directors have traditionally been appointed from within. As such, experience in a senior management role within S.H.I.E.L.D. is a pre-requisit for appointment.

Appointment

Previously appointed by the World Security Council, since the fall and re-establishment of S.H.I.E.L.D, they are appointed by the Secretary of Defence, following the nomination of possible candidates by department chiefs within the organisation.

Duties

Overseeing all aspects of S.H.I.E.L.D. While much of the day to day running of the agency is delegated to department heads within the organisation, the Director has ultimate oversight. They are expected to step in to personally manage any particularly large or sensitive opperations. The Director is also responsible for personel decisions such as the appointment of senior officers, granting of high level security clearance, and some sensitive decisions about lower level staff, such as decisions about recruiting double agents.

Since the dissolution of the WSG, the Director is also responsible for liaising with the Secretary of Defence.
