Mordo was seeking to use the Nexus to spread the Empirikul's campaign against magic across all realities. However, during the battle, one of the dimensional doorways opened onto a world which the Empirikul had cleansed.
Seeing the reality of what the death of magic actually meant, Mordo gave up fighting.
