Mimir's Prophesy

A prophesy of Ragnarok, given by Mimir to his niece Hela.

Hela believed that if she could cause the events described in the prophesy, it would trigger Ragnarok. She interpretted the lines "The sun turns black, earth sinks in the sea / Fierce grows the steam and the life-feeding flame /Till fire leaps high about heaven itself" and "Winter shall fall, three times three / The mighty winter, and the earth grow dark" as referring to a massive volcanic erruption and subsequent volcanic winter. She therefore attempted to use Daisy Johnson's powers to trigger a supereruption in Yellowstone National Park.

Mimir's Prophesy

Much do I know, and more can see,
Of the fate of the gods, the mighty in fight.

In the Giant-lands a cockerel crows,
Fair and white did Betrayer stand.
Then to the gods crowed Golden-Comb,
He wakes the heroes in Odin's hall.

Beneath the earth does another crow,
The rust-red bird at the bars of Hel.
Fenris howls loud before Gnipahellir,
The fetters will burst, and the wolf run free;

Brothers shall fight and fell each other,
And sisters' sons shall kinship stain.
Hard is it on earth, shields are sundered,
Wind-time, wolf-time, ere the world falls.

Loud blows Heimdall, the Gjallarhorn is aloft,
In fear quake all who on Hel-roads are.
Yggdrasil shakes, and shiver on high,
In giant-wrath does the serpent writhe.

The crags are sundered, and heaven is cloven.
The sun turns black, earth sinks in the sea,
Fierce grows the steam and the life-feeding flame,
Till fire leaps high about heaven itself.

Winter shall fall, three times three,
The mighty winter, and the earth grow dark.
From below, the dragon dark comes forth,
The bodies of men on his wings he bears.

Much do I know, and more can see
Of the fate of the gods, | the mighty in fight.
