Mimir

Mimir Hoenirson

Mimir is the second son of Hœnir.

He was given by Odin to the Vanir as a peace hostage during the Aesir-Vanir War. However, he was was decapitated by his nephew Frey, and his head sent back to Asgard as a sign that the Vanir would never surrender.

One the night before his funeral, his spirit appeared to Odin in a dream, and ordered Odin to place the head in a particular pool of water on the dark edge of Asgard, later known as the Well of Wisdom. Upon being placed in the water, the head returned to life, and Mimir gave his first prophesy, telling Odin that the only way to end the war was for Odin to marry Frigga, the eldest daughter of King Frey.

During Hela's Rebellion, Odin sacrificed his right eye to Mimir in exchange for the knowledge of how to prevent the destruction of the Nine Realms at her hands.

The goddess Vör, one of the hand-maidens of the All-Mother, is said to have been permitted by Mimir to drink his blood, granting her prophetic abilities.
