Left alone on the Valkyrie with no way to stop it launching deadly missiles, Steve Rogers chooses to crash the ship into arctic ice, freezing the bombs before they can detonate, but seemingly killing himself in the process.
The exact site of the crash was unknown, and was not discovered until 2011.
