Personal history
Before his work with The Controller, Paul lived with his wife and daughter in Perth, Scotland. A gentle man by nature, he hid his natural psychic mutation from his family and lived a normal, peaceful life -- until the Controller found him.
Officially, Paul died in the murder-suicide of his wife. A freak incident, they say. The reality is not so simple.
One night, he was awoken by the door of his home bursting inward. A squad of superpowered soldiers swarmed the house, surrounding his small family in seconds, blocking all entrances. The Controller approached, offering the life of his family in exchange for his services. Paul feigned ignorance at first, hoping he could convince these people they had the wrong man -- but the soldiers responded in kind, killing his wife in front of his eyes as his infant child watched.
Scared into submission, Paul agreed to go with him, leaving his daughter alone. The Controller covered up the murder and disappearence as a murder-suicide and Paul's daughter was sent into foster care. And so began Paul's long years of regret.
Thrown into service training the Controller's subjects, Paul dedicated the rest of his life to taking care of these children, making sure they were looked after and protected wherever he could. These efforts came to fruition when two of the childre, now teenagers, Subject Brightheart and Subject Redwind made a daring escape from the Facility with Paul's help. He managed to pass the event off as an accident -- a surprise attack on his life by the children -- and was begrudgingly allowed to continue to live and work under heavy scrutiny from the Controller.
MAJOR SPOILERS FOR RECKLESS TRUTH
When, years later, word reached Paul about two humans investigating their brother's disappearence, he felt a deep need to protect them from the horrible truth he lived in. He did everything he could to discourage Lydia and Elyan Moore from searching further, while pulling strings in the background to make sure they would know the truth either way. This endeavour eventually lead to his death -- protecting Elyan from a fatal blow, Paul Jameson died knowing his daughter would never know him and the world would forever know him as a murderer, but thanks to him nine lost children and their found families finally had a chance to live beyond the fate he earned.
