Sun-Order of Hyron

The Warrior Sun-Order of Hyron is a religious military order dedicated to Easivra, the Dawn Eagle. Operating numerous chapters all around Kartia, across multiple nations, the Sun-Order is one of the most prevalent knightly orders on the continent, with the Hellknight Orders being a far second. It is led by Grand Solar Paladin Belit since 1295 AM.

Structure

There are both military and civilian roles within the Sun-Order. Civilian roles tend to be of a clerical nature, often handling the Order's financial and administrative affairs. The military ranks are two-fold: sworn Knights and the Coadjutors. Knights have undergone the knighting ceremony, sworn the Oath of Light, taken the Vow to the Dawn, and granted permission to wear the Order's distinctive armour. Knights who prove themselves through exemplary behaviour and prowess may become Paladins, highly respected district commanders of the Order. Coadjutant is a wide term encompassing knights-in-training, hired professionals, and contract volunteers. Most of the Sun-Order's membership, around 90%, is comprehended by coadjutants. All members display the Order's iconic symbol, the yellow sun.

History

The Sun-Order of Hyron was established by a cadre of Oval Knights of the Karapanate in 975, after news of the Hyxian collapse reached the southern realms. It was formed with the intent of attracting members from all ranks of society, irrespective of social status and wealth, and was more successful than anticipated: within a year, its numbers had grown to the many thousands. The founding leaders had little experience in administering what was effectively a small army, and sought advice from Akk-Ur's generals. Hyron, the most prominent of them, helped them reorganise the Order and established a clear hierarchy of command within which ranking knights, nowadays known as Paladins, were tasked with commanding regiment-sized formations, who in turn took orders from a leader-knight, nowadays known as the Grand Paladin. Historians attribute the Order's transformation into an effective fighting force to Hyron's reforms, and despite the famed general never being an ordained member of the group, the Order's ruling circle unanimously elected to rename the organisation in his name after his death and subsequent proclamation of martyrhood by the Karapanate.
